"Veronika Decides to Die," is a novel by Paulo Coelho, a Brazilian writer with many inspirational works such as The Pilgrimage and The Alchemist. This novel begins in the city of Ljubljana; capital of Slovenia, its main character is Veronika, a young and beautiful girl of 24 years of age to whom the monotony of her life has led to suicide. Veronika was certain that at her age, she had achieved everything she wanted. She believed that the only thing that could be missing to live was the bad things of life. Veronika decided the best way to do it; it was by taking four packs of sleeping pills which after 5 minutes made her unconscious. Veronika woke up in Villete, an asylum established in 1991, in a former barracks abandoned by the maintenance costs. This Villete became a sanatorium where were the real mental patients transferred from other clinics together with persons who were accused of insanity, or were made to go through insane. Once awake in the hospital after a long time, Veronika woke a saw Dr. Igor, Director of the institution and a young intern. It was this young man who lets her know her state, informed her that they managed to a stomach wash, which prevented her death, but the excessive dose of sleeping pills caused her an irreversible damage to her heart and told her that she will die in less than a week. Even after this Veronika was sure of the decision which had been taken but was not willing to wait that death came and it is then when she met Zedka, a woman who was finishing her "treatment" and who had entered Villete because of depression; Veronika, asked for help to get more pills to achieve its objective and that's when Zedka, spoke about “Fraternity”, a group of people completely sane that could be out of Villete...

I would recommend this book to everyone because it is interesting and it made me reflect about whom I am, and what I am doing with my life. It made me think about all the risk that I did not take because I was afraid of what others think. It made me realize that sometimes I need to be selfish with what I want. It gave me the pleasured to rethink about all the things that I did not say because I thought that it did not worth it. Sometimes it is difficult to understand all those things without being close to death. This book teaches me how can I be happy and be crazy because sometimes what we really thing is insane could be the most normal thing for others. It thought me to not be like everyone else if not to be different because that is only thing that could make us happy.

I would recommend this book to people who love realistic stories. Personally for me it is hard to find books that interest me and this one felt like if I was watching someone else's life while I read it. It has so many interesting points. When you think something might happen
What I liked most about it was reading from two different perspectives and how those different perspectives met through the book.
Over this entire novel, it is a good novel for children. It train children how to think logically, and notes people we should cherish our family, and people around us, very educate. Children can learn true is always been hide.
I can relate this book to my life in many ways; it was easier for me to relate to this book because were both 18 year old girls who want to live life the right way. Also I don’t want to live life trying to be like everyone else, so this was really encouraging to me. A part that helped me was the part about confidence and how important that is. Its important to have confidence in your faith because say you get in a situation you can protect your faith and stand up for what you believe. Another part that I can really apply to my life was how when people were talking about her she didn’t even beg to know. Personally whenever I hear that someone was talking about me, I really want to know what they said! This helped me to learn that why fill my brain with negativity sinful gossip, because that’s not what Jesus would do.
I think that the messages this book displays are important for anyone to think about, and apply to their lives every day.
"Suicide, what a terrible concept. There are two types of suicide: physical, and theoretical. Physical suicide is the more commonly heard type of suicide. It entails the person actually, physically killing himself or herself. On the other hand, theoretical suicide is when the person does something that will, in turn, get him or her killed. For example, in “All About Suicide” by Luisa Valenzuela, Ismael, a man that works at a minister’s office, murders the minister, a high-ranking public official. Ismael has been forced to be quiet by the government; therefore he lashes out by killing the minister so that he can reveal the truth about the government. In doing this, Ismael technically “kills himself” because he knows the government will eventually find him and execute him. The theme of this story is that quite often, the truth is misconstrued or is hidden from the public. In order to reveal the truth, action must be taken to bring the truth to the people. Valenzuela reveals this theme through flashbacks, pronoun usage, and imagery.
Although this book had no major affect on me, I learned how a boy can go through traumatic experiences and still have the will power to keep going on. That was the only thing that really affected me in the whole book.
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
I always looked at death as such a sad thing that is eventually going to occur to everyone. However, after reading this book, it made me realize death can actually be a beautiful thing. Death allows a person to go to a next life, one where they will be loved and others will be there for them. It was interesting to be able to read about stories that these hospice care workers witnessed themselves. I have experienced a few deaths within my life and I never coped with them very well. After reading this book, I honestly believe I will be able to look at the positive side of death and be able to deal with my emotions better. I can also help others surrounding me deal with a death that they are experiencing. This book was filled with information that I loved learning. For example, I never knew that a dying person can choose a time to die. The thought of this never occurred to me before. I always thought that when it was someone’s time to go, they had no choice. But, a dying person can “put off” passing on until they see a certain person or event that has great significance in their life. Nevertheless, there are still people who will wait to die until they’re all alone in the room. This book makes you think of real life situations and think what you would do in them. Taken as a whole, it was a very in depth book that changes the way you would naturally perceive
I would very much so recommend this book. It is a great story about how everyone has a purpose to be here, and it makes you think of heaven as not just the streets of gold, but as a place where we will find out all the answers about our lives. It is a great concept. I would absolutely recommend The Five People You Meet in Heaven.
Death is not a lover.” (57). As it is shown the woman feels hopeless so she kills herself. Although she is not the only one who wishes to die. The little boy admits to his father that he no longer wants to live in such a cruel world. “After a while he said: You mean you wish that you were
At first, I was not sure how I would identify with this book. It was a self-help book about how to live a wholehearted life. Brene Brown wrote the book The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to be and Embrace Who You Are. She is very insightful and uses quotes and data to back up her research and reasoning. I cannot count how many times I wanted to share what she had written with many people I know that could use the information or feel this way or that about what she was talking about at that moment on that one page. Sometimes I found the answer to a question I did not know I had or just an insight into something that I have been struggling with. Every human has some imperfection that they wish they could get freed
I would recommend this book to anybody, it appeals any audience. It's a wonderful story

I liked this book because it shows a part of society which is usually kept hidden. Many people think schizophrenia is just a form retardation, but this book gives you a small amount of understanding for people with this disorder.
