Varsity sports play one of the largest roles in the modern school system. They can one of the most influential parts of a youngling’s experience. However, with that comes great challenges and sociological issues embedded into the sports that show conflict and adversity in certain times. After reviewing some of these issues the true structure of varsity sports may be identified, and possibly reviewed. The first social issue of social division and the ideology of popularity that sport causes in the education system. For many years, student culture was studied by factors that high school students used to determine popularity. Research usually found that male students wanted to be remembered as athletic stars, while females wanted to be remembered The early beliefs for the reason of sports, was that learning should encompass both body and mind. This then was translated into the belief that sports build character, which then led to sports being positive in all circumstances. While this is not completely true sports develop people in many ways still, some people saying that “sports make me what I am today.” While it is impossible to prove exactly the way each individual takes in sports, it is seen that overall it has some positive effect. Sports are a tool of developing and instead of it being a choice between sports and academics, the real answer is both and that they work together to constantly develop quality generations of Though problems exist, the true qualities of sports maintain the role they have in developing young ones. Varsity sports give great qualities of teamwork unity and give you an opportunity to step outside your norms and do big things. While there are alternatives to everything there are truly nothing better than putting that uniform on for the school you have put major time in for. We must not alienate a basic developing factor that has played huge roles in developing the future. Society must stay with what varsity sports stand for, and just sometimes accept that not everything goes in the way of individuals, but in the way that benefits all and work as one
The Varsity team lost to the JV team because they did not work together as team. Though the Varsity team consisted of high performing individuals for speed, strength, and endurance but together they lacked the cohesiveness to perform as a single unit. Also among them there were a lot of internal conflicts cropping up like blaming each other, lack of trust and confidence in the ability of others etc., which were not identified, or resolved at appropriate time. Each one did not believe he was working as a part of the team; rather they tried to maximize their individual capabilities alone. In addition the Varsity team lacked a strong leader, mostly people were disruptors.
Imagine this, Friday night, bright lights, the smell of popcorn, your classmates in the stands cheering you on, and the coolest thing of them all, the name of your own school on your jersey, representing the whole school. Some schools think sports cost too much money, but being a student is harder than ever. You are being held to tougher academic standards-and so is your school and that's why it is more important than ever for schools to keep sports because private and club sports are too expensive for most families and sport programs in school can affect and improve academic skills.
Sports are a crucial part of an individual 's character. Counter arguments made against having sports at schools are getting more and more public. The arguments make people, think again about having students play sports. Sports are useful because they give players skills they can use on and off the field: strength, leadership, and confidence.
On the contrary interscholastic sports can be character to the sporting events in town. Students act dumb and they end up doing something to earn respect back to play. However building character is something all the sports for school the students shouldn’t act immature and actually be mature so the school can build its character on the sport, so people come and watch them play. Within a community is a sense of unity, which for many is brought together by the young athletes of the community. In his article “High School Sports Have Turned Into Big Business,” Mark Koba of CNBC highlights that within the last thirty to forty years high school football has escalated into a highly revered tradition in which not only communities, but highly successful corporations have begun to dedicate millions of dollars towards (Koba n. pg.). This highlights the status of sports within the community and may explain part of the reason schools would favor sports over other programs. Because sports programs can often turn over big profits for schools, they tend to dedicate most of their excess funds towards sports, and rely on sports programs to create large profits for the school. When school administrators see how much sports unite, excite, and benefit the school, they develop a respect for sports and consider it a necessity to provide a good sports program for their students and community. I personally believe if a student is in a high school sport they’re forced to prioritize between school and their sport, and at a young age I believe the student would decide to use his time to improve in his sport instead of school. Which in the long run would affect his academics, unless they decide to stay up late and work on their homework to keep up with both school and their sport. But, even like that in time the lack of sleep would catch up to them, and cause them to do even worse in both academics, and sports. High school sports are like the lotto in my opinion, many play but only a few get rewarded for their work. Therefore, high school sports cause more negativity than positivity.
A common denominator that successful people share is the involvement of playing a varsity sport in high school. Every high school in the United States is different, however all encourage students to get involved. Most commonly, students decide to join sports. High school sports can cause profitable effects because students live healthier lives, achieve higher grades and learn life lessons.
Varsity sports are important aspects of life for high schools and towns. The teams represent the school and the town alike in what talent the team brings to the competition. Many schools have roster cuts due to the increasing number of players going out for sports, and it also teaches character to students so they work hard for their dreams. Streator High School is one of these schools that participates in having cuts. Some people disagree with cuts, but evidence suggests that in order to have the best team and have the correct number of hard working, and character driven athletes, roster cuts for varsity sports should continue to be allowed at Streator High School.

Fun and other preferences for adolescents’ sport participation” claims that fun, social aspects, masculinity, and identity are the main reasons youth participate in sports (Skille and Østera˚ s, 360). Oftentimes, athletes forget they are on the same team, and they start to form cliques or groups based around who has the best bench press or 40 meter dash time. As a result, teammates start to compete with each other instead of working towards the same goal. For instance, one coaching journal article claims that “moral reasoning” in youth is determined through “collective norms” or group behaviors that the coach has a hand in influencing (Shields, LaVoi, Bredemeier, Power, 748-749). A proper coaching environment should therefore revolve around a fun, supportive, and collective environment where success is encouraged through the full support of the team. Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
Are colleges doing enough to prepare student-athletes to be successful in life? Are students benefitting or are universities exploiting? Colleges are monetarily thriving from the talents of athletes. A numerous amount of these athletes are only recruited for their physical talents and many of them are not academically up to par. Although academic institutions claim to procure means to aid athletes in the classroom, there are still vast conundrums plaguing society concerning the miseducation of these individuals.
In conclusion, it is explicit that sports is a positive influence on athletes, spectators and the world as a whole as it teaches imperative life lessons as well as allows its participants to experience enjoyment, fulfilment and gratification. As mentioned previously sports enables its players to bring out the best in others and create unity amongst groups as team work is so essential. The main goals behind Sport Education are to help students become knowledgeable about different sports and activities to the point where they can participate in these outside of the classroom to stay active.
