A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular disease. It normally contains an agent resembles a disease-causing micro-organism and is often made from a denatured form of the targeted virus. This activates the body’s immune system to recognize the agent as a threat, destroy it, and the keep a record of it. Keeping a record of the agent is essential because this how the body can more easily recognize and destroy the virus if it is contracted later in life.
Like stated before, vaccines are dead or inactivated organisms or purified products derived from them. There are several different types of vaccines in use, and they all represent different strategies in disease prevention. Inactivated vaccines contain inactivated micro-organisms that have been destroyed by various methods. Some inactivated vaccines include influenza, polio, and rabies. (Petrovsky) Attenuated vaccines contain live attenuated microorganisms. Examples of these include yellow fever and measles. Other vaccines include protein subunits, toxoids, and many more.

The positives really do outweigh the negatives. But, when I do eventually have my own children, I will do plenty of research before I make my final decision on vaccinations. Although I personally think that all children should be vaccinated, parents should still have that choice left up to them. The government can give their opinion on vaccines, but they should not force anyone to be vaccinated. Before doing research, I did not even think about government regulations but then after reading about religious freedom, I changed my mind. No one should be forced to go against their belief system because the government says it’s wrong. Although I think vaccines are very beneficial to children, parents should still have this choice available to
