In this book, The Count of Monte Cristo, many readers find the use of honesty in the novel to be problematic. The Count of Monte Cristo or in other words Dantes, is dishonest by lying to everyone about who he is. Because he was in prison for such a long time, his looks changed and when he got out no one knew who he was.
As everyone is thinking that Dantes is dead from prison, he really escaped and changed his name to The Count of Monte Cristo. Changing his name was a way to disguise him from being Dantes. After being locked up for so long, no one knew who he was. This disguise kept him from not having to go back to prison, and also helped with getting revenge on those who sent him to prison for no reason. In this novel, since Dantes was not able to be recognized, he used this dishonesty to back at Danglars, Mercedes, Benedetto, and Caderousse.

Here Dante is gassed on by Virgil because he shows pity to the souls in Hell. Since God is the one who sends souls to Hell, Virgil thinks that Dante believes God has made the wrong choice. Throughout the poem we see Dante change his views; he comes to realize that those who are in Hell truly belong there. We see people on the street and feel pity for them, but we don 't stop to think how they got there; it might just be part of God’s ultimate plan.
By saying this, it is evident that Francesca openly accepts Dante’s pity, so much so that she believes Dante deserves peace for it, revealing that she feels as though she has done nothing wrong. She also refers to her journey from life to Hell as “grievous”, implying that her punishment is far too severe for her, once again emphasizing how she considers herself innocent. This suggests that maybe Francesca feels as though her actions are justified because she was motivated by love, but it is selfish to think that one’s own happiness is more important than others. Dante is aware that justice is the true creator of Hell, and still shows sorrow for her and her lover, also suggesting that he might, like Francesca, value love more than justice. The wedding was all set! The music was ready; the food was ready; the groom was ready. The wedding was set for Thursday. It was all well planned. The only thing that was left was the bride. Wait, where was the bride? No one could find the bride anywhere! Everyone looked and looked, but they couldn’t find the bride! The bride was nowhere to be found! In The Count of Monte Cristo Dantès is an extremely successful young man with a great fortune ahead of him. Dantès however, clearly knowing he is blind due to love, cares nothing of the happenings around him. He is unaware of the fact that the people all around him have something against him. Dantès therefore, ends up inviting his enemy to his wedding, thus causing himself to be at harm at a place at which he knows he will be at unawares because of the “love that blinds him”. Therefore, Dantès is a tragic hero because it is his fault that he wasn’t aware that the people all around him were plotting against him.

Dante has come far. From bouts of pity to disgraceful insults, he realizes the way to act in the face of sin. The sinners deserve no mercy, just more torture. This philosophy is what Dante needed through his journey of Hell to get closer to his faith. Human reason helped promote his understanding by smiling or hugging Dante whenever he favorably acknowledged a sin. Being ruthless towards humans is frowned upon, but in Hell the sinners are not human anymore. Dante justly transformed himself to hate sin.
