There is a constitution in every country to guide the government and to govern the people. With so many struggles facing the United States of America, one thing was for sure, change was needed. A universal law was needed to fix the government and make it more functional. The US Constitution becomes important because it directly states and explains natural born rights and limits the federal government. Both the government and people are bound to obey it. The constitution contains requirements to the powers and duties of government, Americans have been concerned with their rights, the right to practice religion however they wished was one of the primary reasons the first settlers came to America from England. The right of representation and self-determination was one of the primary reasons the Revolutionary War was fought. The right for all persons to be free was one of the reasons the Civil War was fought. These documents help to maintain society, making the government responsible and making its citizens feel as though they have control and say in the government. Some of the most important given rights are stated in the fourteenth Amendment of the constitution.
The primary purpose of the fourteenth amendment was to grant citizenship and to protect. The Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution affects us today by permitting citizenship, civil rights, and congressional representation. The fourteenth amendment also allows everyone due process of the law. The Due Process Clause prohibits state and local government officials from depriving an individual of life, liberty, or property without getting court approval. The fourteenth amendment also establishes the equal protection clause; this clause insures that everyone rece...

...lem with the constitution; the constitution didn't limit government enough. The basic idea was for the people to be in control of the government, not for the government to be controlling the people. State governments where planned to be stronger than the federal government, but that is not the case, the federal government is the most powerful, followed by the states and the individual citizens have little or no power. This is not good because the federal government is not always doing things in the best interest of the people. Allowing states more power will not only create laws fitted for the interest of its citizens but it will also destroy that bar of power. The US Constitution is and will continue to be one of the best documents created for our country although there is much modification needed to help America to become the best country that it can possibly be.
For as long as America has had a country there has been a constitution. And for as long as there has been a constitution there has been freedom and liberty. One cannot exist without the other. To invalidate the constitution would also invalidate our freedoms. Some would have us believe that in our ever changing lives our constitution has lost its relevance; that it is not as relevant today as it was 200 years ago. Tell that to those who seek the freedoms of the United States, to those who have
Have you ever wished you could say and do things and not get in trouble so easily well you can because of the bill of rights .The bill of rights was a really important document that was made by James Madison and was passed on December 15, 1791(history.com staff). He made it because he was inspired by George Mason who wrote the Virginia declaration of rights (constitutionfacts.com). The American Jury system had been used ever since we became a country. In fact the jury system originated from England a long time ago. The jury system is very controversial because it involves ordinary citizens making the verdict of criminal activities. Although we still use it, is it really necessary in today’s day and age. Obviously when someone is put on trial there needs to be a decision on whether they are guilty or not, but that’s why we also have a judge. Another way we can reach a verdict
carta helped shape the constitution and the development of the legal system. After the U.S. declared independence in 1776 the new United States’ founders met in Philadelphia to come up with a constitution based on the magna carta, with one area being the 39th magna carta clause; “No free man shall be taken, imprisoned, outlawed, banished, or in any way destroyed, except by the lawful judgment of his peers and by the law of the land.” The fifth amendment in the U.S constitution said “No person shall
the ones that actually succeeded, the French on the other hand were not as fortunate in their success. The American Revolution was successful because they broke apart from the British; some of the ways that they did this were with the Declaration of Independence, and the constitution. The French on the other hand failed, they did not successes because of the beheading of Marie Antoinette, and the storming of the Bastille. The American Constitution is one of the longest standing constitutions that
US Founding Ideals Two hundred and twenty five years ago, a document was added to our constitution granting us five ideals. This document was called the Bill of Rights, which granted us the basic rights of opportunity, liberty, equality, democracy and rights. Since the Bill of Rights was added, not all of the ideals have been obeyed consistently. Liberty, rights, and democracy have been followed well throughout the years, but opportunity and equality have fluctuated. Although the constitution and
a whole country. Being the first president of the United States, this made the job for Washington more extreme having to create this equal country from scratch, through the struggle of war, establishment of a complete country and creating an example. Leading the charge for the American Revolutionary War built Washington great credibility, to in which made him an optimal pick for the first president. As relieved from documents from the war it shows that His strategy enabled Continental forces to capture
Americans and the European American settlers. Include at least three examples from the literature and notes. • “They told us they had fled from their own country for a fear of wicked men, and had come here to enjoy their religion. They asked for a small seat. We took pity on them; granted their request; and they sat down amongst us. We gave them corn and meat; they gave us poison in return” (Concise Anthology of American Literature, 370). Jacket asserts that the finding of “friends and not enemies”
U.S. Constitution is a wonderful document that our forefathers put great thought, and effort into creating. It guides our government in the daily activities of running the United States. The United States has fought many wars to protect the inalienable rights we enjoy thanks to our forefathers writing this document. In this paper I will show the good and the bad of the Constitution. I will show how it is effective in today’s society, and what really needs to be amended to adapt to our ever changing
rebellion and a revolution by the English people from England who were displeased with the Divine Right Theory and the abuse by the kings. The Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, and the Declaration of Independence are three important concepts and documents that show us how we moved from the Divine Right Theory to a Social Contract. During the medieval period, the Divine Right Theory stood in place. The Divine Right Theory was a doctrine that stated that the king had his right to rule by God; questioning
divided on the topic of slavery, although not because of its untainted morality. Slavery’s economic substance was the controversy, as they realized that the manor system could not survive without a cheap source of labor. Jefferson himself owned over one hundred slaves, but spoke out against the enslavement of African-Americans. The duplicitous nature of Thomas Jefferson mimicked the attitude of the colonists during the Revolutionary War period. While many saw that slavery disturbed the human rights
government ever becomes too controlling. America is governed by a democratic government or a democracy which is a government by the people, in which the power is established in the people themselves. The people then elect representatives who carry out their power in a free electoral system. The United States government’s basic claim is to serve the people and only through a combined effort can we
are part of a country where they are free, where they have rights and responsibilities as US Citizens, and where they know when to be a leader and when to be a follower. Most countries in the world do not have the same freedom that America has. Two hundred and forty one years ago, when the Declaration of Independence was signed and adopted, so was a new, free country. Since
this nation has achieved for over the past two hundred years. Perhaps one of the greatest achievement of liberty by the Americans in the past two hundred years has been the founding of the United States Constitution. Not only does the constitution deal with the distribution of government powers, but it proclaims the freedom of all individuals, abolishing slavery. Although freedom is technically set to the slaves by the constitution, but it did not fully fulfilled the description of “liberty” for the
when people do you a favor, you don’t always appreciate it at the time, but later on, you thank them for it. Jefferson was one such person, and, while he did not always have such a loose interpretation of the Constitution as he did when he bought the Louisiana purchase, he was justified in purchasing it due to his power to make treaties with the agreement of ⅔ of Congress. This made him justified due to the fact that it decreased conflict and decreased tension in general between the United States and
