Border Patrol The U.S. Border Patrol to me is very important to the United States of America and to me as well. Without the Border Patrol, America would be a goat standing in the middle of a wolf cage. The Border Patrol and their agents border the boundaries of America so we can be safe in our homes. People don’t realize how important any kind of law enforcement is, until the day that they need assistance comes. I don’t take our men and women who protect us Americans; it is something that not everyone can say that they have. I have no one in my family that has worked with the Border Patrol, and I want to be the first in my family to join the Border Patrol. I am from Del Rio Texas, a border town neighbors with Mexico. The U.S. Border Patrol has had a major impact and a long history in Del Rio. In the Customs Border Patrol website, it informs that, “The Border Patrol Agents of the Del Rio Sector provide law enforcement that not only affects the quality of life of the people along the border but the entire U.S. The Border Patrol is a multi-task law enforcement body that has served Del Rio since July, 1 1924” (Border Security along Borders, web). The flow of illegal aliens across the Rio Grande River provides a challenge to the Border Patrol agents assigned to the area. The absence of man-made barricades to control the points of entry gives illegal aliens and smugglers of aliens and narcotics the passage of crossing virtually any place along the 210 miles of border with Mexico. Few aliens remain in the Sector area. Local farmers and ranchers are not allowed to hire illegal aliens to fill for jobs available in the area, “Most illegal aliens are try to make their way to San Antonio or Houston, where construction workers are always need... ... middle of paper ... ...ements, web). To be honest, I cannot see the United States of America be where it is today if the Border Patrol did not exist. I cannot wait to become a Border Patrol agent, not only to make my country proud, but also my family. A leading American historian on race, policing, immigration, and incarceration in the United States, Kelly Lytle Hernandez’s Migra! A History of the U.S. Border Patrol tells the story of how Mexican immigrant workers emerged as the primary target of the United States Border Patrol and how, in the process, the United States Border Patrol shaped the history of race in the United States. Migra! also explores social history, including the dynamics of Anglo-American nativism, the power of national security, and labor-control interests of capitalistic development in the American southwest. In short, Migra! explains
Tod Miller opens up hisbook by CBP’s involvement in Super Bowl security. This involvement reveals the consequences of hyper-security not only aimed at the order, but also in football fields and local community. The author reveals out the huge budgets spent on the border agency. From the chapter 1,2 and 8, he reports that since 2/11, the US government has spent around $791
The mission of the Colorado State Patrol is to ensure the safe and secure environment for all persons by utilizing the strengths of our members to provide professional law enforcement services that reflect our core values of Honor, Duty and Respect. To truly understand how the Patrol intends to live up to their mission statement, one must also know the Patrol’s vision. As listed on the Patrol’s website, the vision of the Patrol is: “Through our unwavering professionalism and loyal adherence to our core values, the Colorado State Patrol will be nationally recognized leader in public safety. As an agency bound by our tenets of Character, Integrity, Judgment, Loyalty, Courtesy, Honor, and Knowledge, we will advance our profession as we safeguard life and protect property throughout Colorado” (CSP, 2011).
The Border Patrol never sleeps! Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week these men and women of the United States Border Patrol are doing everything possible in their power to secure the borders of the United States of America. Keeping America’s borders safe and secured is a very risky task. Almost 100 Border Patrol officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. Thousands have been wounded. So we should honor, respect, and most importantly thank those in the Border Patrol who have given us protection as we would for our troops in the Middle East who are fighting for our country.
These immigrants venture to the U.S. in pursuit of a ‘Dream’. As a result, areas where
Maybe heavier laws and fines for coyotes would slow the immigration flow into the United States. The immigrants have nothing to lose if they get caught. They will not stop coming into the country as long as there is a job that no one else wants to occupy.
The increase of border security in general the flow of immigration was redirected to the most remote areas of Arizona. Here in southern Arizona is where the “Devil’s Highway” is found. The devil’s highway is a remote desert with an extensive history of deaths. Many immigrants walk for days in the dessert with little water and no food making it a very dangerous place to loose their lives. In his book: “The Devil’s Highway: A True Story”, Luis Alberto Urrea provides us with a background and the events happening such desert. Urrea mentions that: “The first white known man to die in the desert heat here did it on January 18, 1541” (Urrea 5). This shows that the deaths of immigrants here is nothing new. “Most assuredly, others had died before. As long as...

Their excessive force, most of the time, creates a problem that isn’t even there to begin with. He talks about the alarming rates on which the government is using these teams to combat situations that were not meant for them originally. For instance, SWAT was created to respond when life threatening circumstances arise, or/and to save lives when in an emergency situation. Not to be called for anything less than that. Now a days, SWAT is seen constantly in situations that are nowhere near that and are using excessive force on events and individuals that are not calling for it. Another theme he wrote about was how the drug war has changes our law enforcement and their relationship with the people they were hired to protect. As I mentioned before, we are accustomed to seeing police in negative situations which only makes us think of them in a negative way. Instead of seeing them as people we can rely on and feel save with, we’re constantly trying to avoid them and avoid the problems come with them. To me, those were the most important themes of this

Schwarzenegger’s first argument is that congress needs to take security seriously in order to create a stronger border (26). To persuade his audience he uses pathos, referring to 9/11 to appeal to emotions associated with it, and therefore stresses the value of better equipment and resources, which would result from a stronger border (Schwarzenegger 26). He says, “The presence of the citizens’ groups along our border is a reminder of the federal government’s failure to do its job. Government officials, not private citizens, are responsible for our borders. They need to do it right and to do it right now” (Schwarzenegger
Two arguments of the event are described. There are those who support what the Border Patrol did because they believe any illegal immigrant should not be tolerated in this country no matter what the situation is because it would be against the law. She has no right to be in the country some would argue due to undocumented records and arriving to this country illegally. According to the Urban Institute, children immigrants with the needs of public services are more complicated by the lack of legal status among their parents (Capps and Fortuny 2006). Some may say this is why illegal minors, such as Rosa Maria, are not supposed to be crossing to the U.S.
In the world we live in today we see so many negative views of police officers and within the justice system. With the view being so negative there is a large fear of crime that citizens have because many are afraid to call the police. This is because they now have a reason to fear for their lives. This being said we have started to see a rise in private security officers being hired. They are now the ones being called in to come and keep the peace.
Over the years it seems as though our country has become more populated and unsafe from the illegal immigrants and smuggled goods, such as drugs and weapons, which make it into the United States. Although there are many illegal immigrants and contraband that are able to make it into the U.S undetected, there are a significant amount of people and contraband that are caught by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The CBP is a component of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and was formed in 2003. “It is one of the world’s largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S” (CBP). One of the departments of the CBP is border security, which is a team of individuals that work together to protect our country from “illegal immigrants, narcotics smuggling, and illegal importation” (CBP). Border patrol was established in 1924 and has changed dramatically over the decades. The one aspect that has not changed is “the overall mission to detect and prevent the illegal entry of aliens into the U.S” (CBP). The border patrol is responsible for patrolling the 6,000 miles of Mexican and Canadian land borders and 2,000 miles of coastal waters. According to CBP, “In 2013 420,789 nationwide illegal aliens were apprehended and 2.9 million pounds of drugs were seized.” As one could tell, there is a significant amount of illegal immigrants and smuggled goods coming into the U.S. However, the number of illegal immigrants that have been seized is lower than it has been in the past, but I still believe that having a strong border security is necessary in continuing to keep immigrants from trying to come into the U.S illegally and transporting illegal goods. “The primary goal of bo...
One of the major issues surrounding border security is illegal immigration, “For the past two decades the United States, a country with a strong tradition of limited government, has been pursuing a widely popular initiative that requires one of the most ambitious expansions of government power in modern history: securing the nation’s borders against illegal immigration” (Alden, 2012). Many people are trying to enter the United States without the proper documentation and everyday they risk their lives and others just to make it across these borders. To avoid this law enforcement and other border security has threatened these illegal immigrants with detainment and arrest and different forms of punishment. In the efforts to deter the problem, it has been far beyond feasible because they still manage to get across and it does not change their intention...
