In our American society, newspapers are very important they provide a lot of solid information of what is happening in national and international level. Newspapers are usually written to expose conflicts, peace, knowledge, lost, and other cultural media. These articles can be written in different forms such as of multiple paragraph, photos, and comics; such as the one that the New York Times newspaper releases from their journalist, Joe Sacco the author of the comic book “The Underground War in Gaza” on July 6, 2003. In his comic he exposes the conflicts between Israel and Palestine. Sacco then illustrates the attacks that are happening in Palestinian territories, where the Israeli army attempts to maintain control with the excuse of protecting Palestinians from the snuggling that is happening in the underground tunnels. While Palestine fights to regain their freedom from Israel. In this paper I’ll report the different strategies that Sacco use in "The Underground War in Gaza" that communicates both Palestinians’ and Israelis' perspectives on this complicated issue. I’ll then analyze the side of each country, their use of protection, living conditions, and genders portrait with symbol statues shown throughout the transition of his comic book.

Sacco uses multiple strategies to obtain his readers attention and report the communications that both Palestine and Israel are having. He begins by use graphics, writing and background messages. Sacco uses graphics, to express his knowledge on the conflict with more than just words; he reports that Palestine are still at war, with the battle that is uprising over the tunnels and the Israeli army’s bulldozers. ...hese years. This includes logical explanations and graphics that show emotions, and visual understanding of what is happening to the citizens and settlements of Gaza. It also explains how each country protects their families and pride by using various technics such as quoting the interviewee’s. Sacco then mentions the conditions in which both the soldier and the citizens of Palestine live in. He describes the setting by adding various details in his drawings. Finally the use of genders and their status symbol in the comic that show males and a female too demonstrate the status of power between both conflicting parties in “The Underground in Gaza” by the number of times that the author uses the gender in his comic.
