Many animals right now are being abused and mistreated. They have no way to protect themselves. They are being neglected and physically abused. They are also being hoarded and being made to fight other dogs. Some are even being forced into cages with no room to move and being slaughtered at a young age. All animals have rights like humans but only some are being treated right, reminding us that these animals need to be protected.
Animal neglect is the most common type of animal cruelty. Neglect is considered when the animal does not have proper shelter, food, or medical care. This can include starvation, parasites, and inadequate shelter. Physical abuse is also a very big problem. Physical abuse is intentionally harming an animal. Many people do this to feel more powerful or for entertainment. Most abusers are teenagers who have been abused as a child. Research has linked crime with animal abusers. Animal abusers are five times more likely to commit a crime. There are laws protecting animals from neglect and physical abuse.
Research has also linked animal abuse with child abuse. Animal abusers have most likely been abused when they were a child. 88% of families in the research for child abuse also have abused their pet. If someone abuses their pet their probability of committing a crime is also fives times higher than people who care for their pets. Teenagers are the most common animal abuser. They abuse animals to either let their anger out or for entertainment. Stopping animal abuse can also help stop crimes like violence, drugs, and property crimes. There are laws to stop animal abuse but if you see an animal being abused you need to report it to the police.

...any other types of abuse, these few are the most known cases. Many animals abusers are still not known about. We are the only ones who can protect innocent animals. If you see an animal being abused or neglected call your local animal shelter or police department. Thousands of people are abusing animals right now and not getting caught because people do not know to report abuse. If we all try to stop animal abuse we can help the lives of many animals.

Slaughter. Torture. Neglected. Starvation. Everyday innocent animals have to face these consequences because of us. Animals can show more love and affection to us than we humans can. Animals are not only subjects to animal testing, fur farming, breeding, factory farming, dog fighting, but also many other purposes. Animal cruelty perfectly epitomizes the fact that animals can show more compassion, respect to others. A dog, otherwise known as a “man’s best friend” always has this thing called a collar, choked on its neck. So does that mean we in return have to wear a collar too, being pulled in the direction that the dog wants to go, never having the chance to go where we want, do what we want? A young orca forcefully separated from their mother to be enslaved into performing at water parks eternally. Not only that, they are enclosed in these small cages and have to spend endless hours cramped up in that tight space. The pool they swim in is far smaller than what they can swim in if they were free, off in the wild. Is that fair to them that for our satisfaction and pleasure, these animals are deprived from their perfect live? As Christine Stevens had said, “The basis of all animal rights should be the Golden Rule: we should treat them as we would wish them to treat us, were any other species in our dominant position.”
Therefore, animal abuse is a growing trend in today’s society. This trend is bad for today’s society for reasons including death row for the animals, an increase in cost for animal shelters, and a decrease in space for the animals to be safe. Society can stop animal abuse by reporting anything they might see. Together, our society can put a stop to animal abuse, and protect our domesticated pets.
Robert Gonzales, from Bakersfield, seemed like an average, ordinary man. One night however, he was accused of splashing beach on a small dog, and wrapping the dog’s mouth with duct tape. His goal was to discipline the dog. Gonzales was caught and arrested for abusing the animal. Animal abuse is an occurring problem in the U.S. But can be prevented if we take action.

The prevalence of pet ownership in America has more than tripled during the last several decades, rising from 67 million households during the 1970s to 164 million households in 2012 (Human Society, 2014). The conscious decision by 62 percent of American households to own at least one pet represents a long-term commitment of time, money, and dedication to the needs of a wholly dependent entity. The basic needs for all pets, inclusive of companion animals and farm animals, include several provisions. These provisions include access to safe, clean drinking water at all times, access to high quality food commensurate to the weight of the animal, and adequate shelter from excesses of heat and cold (Agape, 2014). Beyond the life-essential basic needs of animals lay commonly accepted requisites that define responsible pet ownership. These requisites or minimal standards of care include access to veterinary care, access to exercise, and freedom from physical harm.
Animal cruelty is a rapidly growing nationwide problem. Animals are being battered and starved everyday. There are many forms of animal cruelty; some forms are scientific research, abandonment, and mistreatment.
over 1,800 cases of animal cruelty in the past year because of the lack of animals having rights revealed in the media, with 64.5% involving dogs, 18% involving cats and the other 25% involving other animals. They should have rights because they have feelings, they are valuable, and they mean a lot to some families to the point where they’re considered to be a part of the family. Most importantly, humans are also animals, So think about how you would feel if someone had full control over you or someone you loved and did things to you that you didn’t enjoy or like. You have to think about their world from their standpoint. Yes, they are animals but they should not be less valued just because they are different from humans.
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Executive Summary Every 60 seconds, an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
The abuse that animals endure at human hands is heartbreaking, sickening, and infuriating. Animals are just as delicate as humans, so why not abuse us too? Animal lives should be just important as ours. No animals should be killed or abused for testing, entertaining, clothing, or hoarding. Every year, millions of animals are being killed and torture for testing.
Review Main Points-Animal cruelty continues to be a problem, but we as individuals can make a difference by becoming aware and ultimately involved.
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
Many people who abuse animals do not realize that they are actually hurting animals, this is known as unintentional. When some people try to discipline their pets they use tactics that they think is acceptable, when in reality is probably not the best way. People also abuse animals due to lack of attention, such as forgetting to feed and water the animals for a number of days. A family may take the animals with them when they leave the house, and forget to leave a window down with the animal inside. One of the biggest unintentional ways of animal cruelty is a way that many people think is helpful but is actually has a negative impact on all of the animals involved, this idea is trying to take in more animals than one can handle, they have good intentions but this is harmful to animals because it forces them to live in unhealthy conditions. There are many new cases of animal hoarding every year, with over 250,000 animals falling victim. Puppy mills are large dog breeding’s that care more about making money than the wellbeing and health of the animals. Many dogs become ill with diseases such as kidney or heart disease as a result of the conditions in which they live.
Animal rights imply that animals have a right to their own life just as we do; that they are not ours to mess around with. To an extremist this argument also means we must maintain a vegetarian diet, not wearing leather or fur, and not keeping animals as pets. A moderate animal protection says that our responsibility toward animals is that we have a moral obligation not to cause them unnecessary pain.
