Twelve Angry Men screenplay writer Reginald Rose once stated: “ It takes a great deal of courage to stand alone even if you believe in something very strongly.” In the film Twelve Angry Men, twelve jurors have to decide the justice of a young h/Hispanic boy. Every juror except one votes guilty, which meant that the jurors have to deliberate longer. The final decision the jurors make at the end of the film is found not guilty. The main aspects of the film include: setting, themes, and counter arguments. Every aspect has its own importance. The setting is filmed in one room. The themes display topics that deal with real life situations. Also the counter arguments are important because they also contribute to determining if the boy is found guilty …show more content…

Juror 8 states, “ It’s possible the boy lost his knife and somebody else stabbed his father with a similar knife. It’s just possible...I’m just saying a coincidence is possible.” He also went and found/goes and finds a similar knife that he bought/buys for $6.00 at a local pawnshop (12 Angry Men (1957) ). So while the jurors were discussing the knife, juror 8 pulled out the similar knife to show that the knife wasn’t one of a kind. The counter arguments in the film are so detailed, it is like the audience knows as much as the jury (12 Angry Men Review). The knife was the first counter argument the jurors discussed in the film. The entire film is based off of social responsibility, justice and democracy. Social Responsibility is the ensurance of an individual respecting another citizen. All twelve jurors were assigned to be on jury duty by the public. The jurors’ social responsibility is to determine the justice of the hispanic boy. They must find out if the boy is found guilty or not. Democracy played a part/The jurors demonstrate their social responsibility when the jurors reached the verdict, which was not guilty.
