“Its like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.” This quote is said by Patrick Rothfuss. In the book, True Notebooks, by Mark Salzman his students tell you many stories that people get to become apart of. Reading stories by other people makes their life more interesting. The power of storytelling is really important, because they have to catch your attention to make you want to hear more. Three stories from the book, True Notebooks, that suck out to me were: “The G Ride”, “Another Screw Up”, and a story without a title by Dale. In the story, “The G Ride” provides a learning experience, order, and how his stories are wired. This story is written by Francisco. People are able to learn from their stories. “Stories are a great way of learning from others, and can help shape cultures within business” (“The Power of Storytelling”). “A story has a core message, but can be interpreted in different ways, depending on the lens through which it’s being heard” (“The Power of Storytelling”). Dale wrote this story because he is saying how angry people can be turned into a rejoiceful person. How we think of stories also shows how we make the meaning of life. Dale thinks that if he writes he will make a better impression on not just himself but Mr. Sills, also. “When we share our own real-life stories or the sorties of others our audiences fell that they get to know us as authentic people” (Duncan). Dale says: “Struggling to survive in an ongoing war that seems to have led me and my fellow troops to a meaningless situation” (Salzman 251). He is able to connect with the people in his writing
