- It is not uncommon for a President’s approval rating to go down after he makes a big decision that involves a lot of American lives. So naturally, it is not hard to see why Barack Obama’s rating has fallen dramatically since he ordered the deployment of over 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan. He believes this will help end the conflict there, but many Americans don’t see it that way. Many are worried about the time frame he has set for the troops withdraw and eventual trip home. Eighteen months is a very short time to end a war that has been dragging on for almost a decade against an enemy that has an obvious advantage due to their knowledge of the terrain.... - In a criminal trial, a defendant has a choice of several justification defenses, of which the most common one is that they did not do anything. The four most important “justification defenses” for criminal culpability are duress, self-defense, necessity, and entrapment. I would like to discuss duress, self-defense, and necessity. The defense of duress can arise when a wrongful threat or use of physical force compels the defendant or any other reasonable person to perform an act which that person would not perform under normal circumstances (Gaines and Miller 91).... - The Necessity to Speak On September 11th 2001 America was attacked. Two planes taken over by terrorists crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and one plane crashed into the Pentagon. For many it was disbelief, something out of a movie, but as the fateful day progressed reality struck hard. Thousands of people were lost in the rubble and hundreds more died trying to save them. For America it was a day of mourning, an event no one will ever forget. America's immunity to attack was broken and paranoia ran high.... [tags: The Necessity to Speak Sam Hamill Essays]

- Many historians and famous authors, such as Mark Twain and Sigmund Freud, have trouble believing that William Shakespeare truly wrote the plays published in his name. As TIME writer Jumanna Farousky wrote, “Doubters started questioning the true identity of the writer in the late 19th century. Ever since then, the theory of an alternate author has flirted with the mainstream as some scholars and researchers have tried to get the broader academic community to treat the question as a legitimate debate”.... Then came the millennials, also called the me generation. The typical millennial, concerned only with his or her own happiness, pursues self satisfaction relentlessly. They only reflect upon their fellow man’s needs when it benefits them.... [tags: Literary Themes]

- Progress and Necessity That theater has undergone many changes since its early incarnation in ancient Greece is a fact obvious even to the casual observer. And it is likewise clear that, as the cultural and social structure of the world shifts and changes over time, it is appropriate that its art forms change as well, in order to address appropriately the new reality in which they exist. However, perhaps not too unexpectedly, there are those who reject our modern manifestation of theater as insincere or false -- indeed, as there are in every time those who contest the latest evolutions of all types of art.... - Human Necessity Today, we live in a world where the question, "why?" proceeds nearly every statement or action. We live in a society where faith alone, for most, is not enough to justify belief. In her novel Regeneration, Pat Barker shows us this need to question by referring to the Gospel of Saint Luke. On page 106, Dr. Rivers recites Luke 4:23 to himself: "Ye will sure say unto me this proverb. Physician heal thyself." Barker uses this Biblical reference to develop a theme concurrent with the entire novel: our innate human need to seek justification for actions.... [tags: Religion Christianity Papers]
