Trevi’s Station
Once upon a time, there was a man who has lived all his life unmotivated. His name is Julio Trevino. He felt unsatisfied with his current job as a sales staff of a JC Penny store, as to the income he receives and his career advancement. He was not able to find a girlfriend because of his he is ashamed of himself that he has no money.
One day while sleeping, he dreamed of being a businessman. He dreamed of being a gasoline station owner. In the dream, he was so successful that he was able to buy a house and cars and even found a one true love. He woke up and said, “I can do this!”
From that moment on, he was rejuvenated and working in his current job full of energy saving all he can with his small pay. For months of working with this attitude, his superiors noticed his hard work and high output in the job. He was commended by promoting him as a service station manager. His pay was increased to $865 per week.
After over a year of hard work, he was able to raise $7,000 from his salary savings and he placed it in a government bonds.
One evening when he arrived home from work, he checked his mails and to his surprise, he got a letter from a lawyer, informing him that he was named as a beneficiary by his uncle in his last will and testament. He is to receive $25,000 from the estate of his uncle. The next morning he went straight to the lawyer and claimed the check and immediately placed it in government bonds. He was very thankful to his late uncle.
After a month he told himself that he can now stand on his own as a businessman and materialize what he has always dreamed of. He resigned from his work and started planning for a new business. Fortunately, while reading a local newspaper, there was an advertisement from Octane Oil Company offering a business opportunity to lease and operate a newly erected Octane gasoline service station for only $25,000 to invest. On that very day he went to the company and applied for the lease. The regional sales manager of Octane was impressed with Trevino’s personal financial qualifications and after several interviews a lease agreement was signed on March 15.
While it has only been two years that he has been working with the firm, he is a great employee and has quickly moved up to position of manager. If he was just a good employee he would not have been promoted, but he stood out amongst others and proved that he deserved that position so he should be paid more than those working under him. I understand that Avery McNeil must have higher starting salaries than its competitors to receive new employee’s, but then they should also raise the manager salary’s like Simpson’s to be greater than employees who work below them. In situations like these employees feel less motivated to work harder or even continue working at the same rate. Michael Simpson loves his job and knows if he leaves Avery McNeil, other firms will not give him the same opportunity, but maybe a better pay. So, if he feels stuck at his job he may start working less or putting in less effort at work. He may even decide to leave the company completely if another company pays him better. Simpson seems like a very easygoing employee and somewhat agreeable. He does not seem like he wants to bring up the situation to his boss because well first he would get asked the question of how he found this information and second because he does not even know if he should ask for a raise. Sometimes when employees seem agreeable managers feel they can take advantage of the situation. This can lead to a situation like Michael Simpson’s. While Simpson has a valued position, his salary does not show that he is being valued because he has been working longer and has a higher position than Walt and Rich. Unfairness in a work place can lead to employees being unmotivated to work harder for the company and sometimes even cause employees to leave altogether because they do not feel that they are being valued by the

“But unlike his father, the son of this industrious man was such a lazybones that in the whole wide world there was none to equal him” from A Rupee Earned by I.F Bulatkin. All will have to confront a life-changing event that alters one’s path, and this concept doesn’t exclude the son in A Rupee Earned or me. In the story, a father teaches his son a life lesson with one simple action. The father required his son to earn only one single rupee in return for him passing down his inheritance, yet his son is reluctant to complete said task. Despite this bargain being totally in the son’s favour, he still refuses to cooperate, showing injudicious behaviour. He simply needs to labour for a week, then he can continue to be lazy for the rest of his life.

Money— sweeter than honey but oh so destructive. It facilitates a man’s life, while a lack of it imprisons him in the streets of penury. It raises his social status, while an absence of it leaves him unnoticed. It gives him an aura of superiority and importance among others, while a deficiency of it makes him worthless in society’s eyes. Considering these two roads, most do not take more than a second to decide to chase riches.

This story shows how a family stuck together in hard times with faith and hard work that they would get through it. Sometimes people may have the same opportunities, but it is very likely all will have different outcomes. The risky nature of Walter may have put the family in a bind with his investment falling through, but what they did still have was each other. At least now, Walter especially, has the opportunity to learn from his
There are some well-known examples of everyday people, such as Oprah Winfrey, who became wealthy and successful through hard work, giving credence to the idea that in America everyone has the opportunity to become anything they want to be by putting forth an honest effort. Although most people will find living an American Dream of riches to be out of reach, everyone has a dream of succeeding, and that is what unites us and makes our nation strong. Our common dream that anything is possible is the Spirit of America.
Sometimes you think that money is so important, but look around you and see how there are more important things. Doris was so sad and lonely that she was alone. The story “Stray” by Cynthia Rylant made me a little sad because this is not a real story but some parts of it are real and happen every day. Her parents were just realizing and thinking about the money and how they couldn't afford the dog.

After seven years in college, Tommy Callahan, who isn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, finally graduates with a BA. He moves back to Ohio, where his dad owns an Auto Parts company. Despite his ineptitude, because his father owns the company, Tommy gets shot straight to the top of his father’s company. Not long after returning home, Tommy finds out his father is getting remarried. The excitement of having a new family is cut short when Tommy’s father dies of a stroke on his wedding day. Though the death of his Dad is troubling, there is little time to mourn. The family Auto Parts company relied heavily on the salesmanship of Tommy’s father, and without his drive and guidance, the company is in danger of getting bought out by a bigger corporation. With no experience to back him, and an academic past that does more to damage his credibility that establish it, Tommy volunteers to fill his father shoes, “ I know I’m probably not the answer you guys are looking for but I feel like I oughta do something.” (Tommy Boy). The board has little confidence in Tommy, but they don’t have a better alternative, so Tommy sets out with the best of intentions, to save his fathers legacy, and the livelihood of his home town. Eventually Tommy succeeds in saving the business, exposing corruption in the process.
