Trench Warfare in World War One

685 Words2 Pages

Soldiers on the Western Front of WWI lived in filth for four years. Bodies were put through horrid conditions. World War I started in 1914 and ended in 1918, with approximately 10 million deaths. Most of the casualties and deaths came from a combat termed Trench Warfare. Trench Warfare is a type of combat in which opposing troops fight from dug up trenches facing one another. Usually these trenches would start from afar and go for miles until they reached the war. It was common for new soldiers to be exposed to death, witnessing soldiers get shot in front of them. Or even when soldiers were forced to be put on what they sought “No Mans Land” it was much worse. Soldiers were slaughtered with machine guns and usually were no survivors. It was rare for someone to make it to the enemy trenches. Trench Warfare was one of the most brutal combat strategies ever used in history.
They say that without sacrifice there is no victory. In World War I there was a quote said by Mary Elizabeth Braddon (1862) that said “There can be no reconciliation where there is no warfare. Again as said before Trench Warfare was one of the most brutal combat strategies ever used in world history. World War 1, with a conclusion of 10 million deaths, consumed two generations that never existed and took away a big population away from the world. Even though World War 1 was over World War 2 was soon to begin because of unresolved issues in the first World War but this time as Hitler as their new leader of Germany. Because of the Treaty of Versailles Germany was humiliated badly and when Hitler arose he promised to make Germany stronger than ever thus enabling World War 2 when the Germans invaded on September 1st, 1939 into Poland. Two days later Britain and France declared war. this concludes my essay.
