Sexual abuse as a child maltreatment became a social issue in the 1970 is through the efforts of the child protection movement and the feminist movement. Finkelhor and Brown (1985p.545) postulate “that the effects of child sexual abuse can be divided into four main categories: trust and betrayal, traumatic sexualization, stigmatization, and powerlessness.” The impact on sexual abuse victims sets the stage for the development of anxiety issues including post-traumatic stress disorders. The impact of this abuse leads to impairment of functioning, self-esteem achievement, and development of healthy relationships.
Crosson-Tower (2015) asserts that PTSD is common in children and adults that are victims of sexual abuse.
