This 5-day training program for Parent Group Leaders will enhance the participants’ understanding of working with parents. Furthermore, the individual will develop new skills such as teaching and strategies of problem solving, which can occur during the delivery of the parenting course.
Assessment criteria during the training
Before the participant can become part of the course an initial assessment takes place in the form of an interview to find out what the individual knows so far about working with parents. Possible gaps will be considered and additional help, if necessary, in form of a development plan will take place during the course.
The assessment criteria adhere to the National Occupational Standards for Working with Parents (NOS WWP), according to UK Government, (2011).
The participant has to demonstrate a good understanding of building effective relationships, by using empathy, listening and to respect the individual.
The participant will during the training programme develop parents’ awareness, knowledge and skills based on the principles of the Parent Program.
The participant will update the knowledge and develop and reflect on the own practice and support the development of others.
Benefit for the service user, organisation and individual
After the training the participant is able to provide quality parenting services in accordance to the NOS WWP (UK Government,2011).
The individual will be officially registered as a Parent Group Leader and will be able to deliver the program in the UK, Scotland and Wales. The individual can add this to his or her CV.

Other teaching methods during the training will be: group activities, visual examples, playing games, reading chapters of the Course Leader Handbook, answering questions and as already mentioned practical activities.
The reason for choosing the above named teaching methods has also already been explained: again people are different and learn, therefore, in different ways (VARK,2016). To make sure that everybody receives the maximum on support, there must be different learning ways provided.
To conclude, this summary explains the training programme to become a Parent Group Leader in detail. The different approaches that could be implemented to support the participants’ learning needs during the training are considered. A detailed training plan is implemented (see Appendix 1).
