The Tradition in Octavia E. Butler´s Parable of the Sower

In Octavia E. Butler’s novel “Parable of the Sower”, the community was entirely collapsed, and almost everywhere was chaos and out of control. It was obviously in a dark period.
The main character, Lauren used to live in the walled community; it was the only small safe place for people tried to maintain a normal life. Because the neighborhood provided a temporary safety, people were willing to stay for education and work even if the walled community had been getting crowded already. To compare and contrast Lauren’s community, it was huge but absolutely chaos and poor outside. People from outside were uneducated, and the government was totally corrupt so that people would just steal, rob and even kill someone in order to survive if they did not have any skills. As Laruen’s walled community, it was destroyed by people from outside later. According to the differences between inside and outside, it seemed as though Butler tried to give people a warning message, and she predicted that the American society would cause the same result if nobody paid attention to the existing issues. The education, the safety, and the government had occurred very serious problems, which negatively impacted everyone who lived in the United States.
Everyone must be eligible to get an education, but unfortunately the signs began to decline. As the novel “Parable of the Sower”, it revolved around Lauren’s neighborhood, the walled community. People in the community almost could write and read. Like Keith, he did not attack by outside people because he read for a living. Keith helped them learn to use their stolen equipment (Butler 106). In the article, “At Least 9,900 People Have Died From Guns In The U.S. Since The Newtown Shooting: Slate”, Dominique Mosbergen pointed out that the number of mass shooting kept growing because of the lax gun control system. For example, 20 year old, Adam Lanza took several legal guns and went to Sandy Hook Elementary School after killing his mother. Besides that, he only spent five minutes to murder 20 children and six adult members of staff (Mosbergen). This school shooting in the United States completely shocked the whole world. At this point, many people had focused on the regulatory issues of guns. Mosbergen stated, “As the nation mourned in the wake of that unthinkable tragedy, many citizens and lawmakers raised their voices to demand” (Mosbergen).
