Introduction
Trade policy of Sweden has the dominant role in the development of the country. The policy has taken the Sweden on a path where it has emerged as an industrial society from its traditional image as rural society. Sweden now has a significant standard of living which is one of the highest in the world, and imports and exports have a very important role in it. Therefore it is fair to say that trade policy made it possible that many of Swedish brands and industries are successful in their domestic as well as in global market.
Trade Policy of Sweden
Sweden’s trade policy is based on the concept of free trade. Free trade is very wide term, usually people think that it is just used for the possible buying and selling of goods and services from one country to other but it will be false to say that the scope of free trade is limited to that. Free trade is not just beneficial for the country’s prospective but it also favors both buyers and sellers as it allows the important decisions to be taken as close to them as possible. Free trade also means that no duty is levied on imports and exports of both goods and services. This duty is known as custom duty. One important phase of free trade is that every kind of protection that the government gives to its domestic industries in order to make them eligible to compete with global producers, is risky for both buyers and sellers.

In the mid 1990’s Sweden left its traditional role of neutralizer of wartime and became the member of European Union (EU).
