you that a school board has a fair amount of influence in a school district; however, it was not until I attended a meeting that I realized the extent that influence has in shaping a school. Prior to my attending a meeting, I had no idea what went on at school board meetings. My experience has taught me a great deal about the responsibilities of a school board, as well as how their enthusiasm and forward thinking have the ability to elevate a school to greater heights. A school board is a link

disdain for school boards. For years, citizens have been trying to abolish school boards because of the corruption and problems they cause. But school boards still stand today and without them public education would develop many problems. With some revisions school boards could be brought back to their former glory. What does a school board do? Many people couldn’t explain what school boards actually are allowed to do under the government’s standards. School boards “connect federal
Winona Area Public Schools and a powerful sense of possibility. In 2014, the School Board set a bold vision for the district: In 5 years, all WAPS students will learn in buildings that embody 21st-century standards of excellence. The School Board and administration has articulated a set of guiding principles that the district in turn used to develop a plan with specific recommendations for renovating and replacing all of its school buildings, starting in the 2015-16 school year. 21st CENTURY
Monday,October 14, 2013 at 7:00 P.M., I attended the Bradford Area School District school board meeting at Floyd C. Fretz Middle School in the large group instruction room. This meeting was important for the teachers, students, and the schools in the district. It provided information that correlated to the material in class and a perspective on what situations as a future teacher I may experience. The meeting began when the school board members entered the large group instruction room and took their
Interviewing a school board member was a very positive experience for me as I was able to get a very clear idea of what it actually means to serve on a school board. Before interviewing Ryan, I did not fully understand many of the implications that members have on schools and all of the decisions that they are a part of. I also never fully understood why many school board members decide to be a part of a school board in the first place, but Ryan helped me see what they do and why they do what they
attend a board meeting and interview a member from the agency. I choose to go to a school board meeting at the Corcoran Unified School District. I specifically choose this agency because I grew up in Corcoran and I’m already familiar with the agency. I also choose this specific agency because I wanted to see what the school boards actually did for the schools and the community. I wanted to see how it was all incorporated to help students and their education. Since I had never attended a board meeting
On September 22, 2014, Wissahickon School District held a school board meeting to be updated on daily events or decisions in the community. The President, Charles McIntyre, led the meeting that started with roll call, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the welcoming of guests. The people on board stated they would go off the agenda because Tina Viletto from the I.U. just arrived from a day trip to Harrisburg to attend hearings on the state education system. She informed us that basic education funding

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board, has only ever considered what they think we, the students, need. Never asking us what we want1 for our school and what we think is most needed. Clubs and teams at St. David’s are heavily underfunded. Many clubs or teams such as Arts Club and Team Dave2 deserve equal funding to the sports teams. Students on sports teams have never had to fundraise for trips or equipment whereas the arts department must save up their money for two years to put on a good
a student at Collinsville High School, occupied with homework in your study hall. Your study hall teacher gets the class’s attention, and with a somber look tells the class that all of the ideas we were hoping for in our school were struck down by the school board. This is the possible outcome of our school if the school board is not fixed with new and more experienced people. Many people have been talking about the possibility of modifying who is in our school board. CHS should have more experienced
At my field placement’s school board meeting there were many issues that were discussed. The topic that was discussed was the functioning of the school day. During this discussion, the principal stated that the teachers and faculty were doing a great job in the mornings with getting the students from the buses to their proper classrooms. It was at this point that a teacher presented the idea of rotating teachers and faculty members outside each morning in order to maintain the morning drop offs.
I attended a school board meeting on March 12, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the former middle school library. I had never been to a board meeting of any kind before this so I did not know what to expect. I knew parliamentary procedure was supposed to be followed in these meetings. Other than that, I did not have any expectations for the meeting. The meeting consisted of many different things. It went from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A few of the people there were Mr. Morehart, Mrs. Root, Mr. Witte, Mr. Aaker
first activity I completed was observing a Davidson County School Board meeting on the topic of an information breach that occurred. The next activity I completed was collecting trash around the Ledford High School campus on two different occasions. Then I was a buddy for a Special Olympics athlete when it was held at Ledford. Finally, I was a buddy for multiple athletes at the Miracle League of High Point. I chose to attend the School Board meeting because I was interested to see how the release of
scheduled Jefferson Parish School Board Meeting on June 7, 2016. This meeting was my fourth in the last three years. One of the first things I noticed was that security had increased. The Power Point illustrating the differences between Charter Schools and Magnet school was presented and was very
High school students everywhere in the United States make very selective class choices based on careers they may want to pursue in the future. One decision that the students may make is to take an AP class. Among students, when they hear the name AP they automatically think stress, and homework, and tests; however it also means college credit, and advanced placement and promises a future. What if the College Board changed the benefits and decided that if the school board had a problem with the
unanimous ruling in the landmark civil rights case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas. State-sanctioned segregation of public schools was a violation of the 14th amendment and was therefore unconstitutional. A number of school districts in the southern and border states desegregated resulted in violent confrontation, requiring the use of federal troops in Little Rock, and others integrated schools. The efforts to end segregation in southern schools turned into an effort to keep students of all races

assembly was called, over 350 black kids sat in the gym wondering what it's about. After the brown vs. board of education case, rumor has been going around about integrating the white schools. They all sat in the air-condition-less gym restless wondering what this could be about. Finally, the principal walks out. He begins by saying “Good afternoon students,” he continues to ramble on about normal school stuff. As the students listen they begin to loosen up and chat amongst themselves. “See I told you
