surrounded by a great dark forest, stood an ancient, crumbling manor, known as the Haunted House. The windows were all smashed and it looked like the house was used a long time ago and was never used again. The font gates were as old as the hills. It belonged to a greedy old man, he was as short as a stump, he was really grumpy and fat who everyone said he was a wizard. Even though he owned the immense haunted house he didn’t dare to go inside because he was frightened like a child in dark, so he
pout that could rival Victoria Beckham’s. “Come on Summer, don’t be such a wuss. It’s just an old house, right Kate?” She looked to her best friend Kate who nodded her agreement. “I’ve been in there before with my brother and I swear it’s not that bad. It looks spookier from the outside than when you’re actually inside the place.” Kate said. “I don’t know guys; deserted houses really give me the creeps. It’s all a little too Nightmare on Elm Street for me.” I answered. Maddie looked
Haunted House in Maine The story I collected entails a house in Maine that was experiencing strange occurrences with no reasonable explanation. The ostensible answer was a supernatural presence. The story was recounted by a family member trying to remember how the story went. It was told to her when she was younger, and she heard the story first hand from her relatives who experienced the phenomena. While telling me the story many years later, she remembered many details and events. My relatives
FEAR: Enjoyment Within Haunted Houses Human beings are diverse in what they like, dislike, and share with each other. As reality has shown human beings have emotions that either tell one to laugh or run away. Emotions are not usually controlled and when one has an opposite reaction to the emotion present it creates a question about why. Fear, for instance, is an emotion that usually elicits a fight or flight response. When fear elicits enjoyment, something deeper about our emotions are at work.
The Haunted House This haunted house in Hagerstown was built long ago. It is the site of a most interesting ghost story, which happened to my friend’s friend’s grandmother. Now while I have heard many stories similar to this, I have never known someone to be involved in one and actually affected by it. My friend’s friend is a Caucasian, 17-year-old, female Christian from Hagerstown. Her dad is a postal worker, and her mother works for the government. The story takes place in the house her

The Haunting of Whaley House is a film I watched for no other reason than, I just couldn 't bring my self to watch The Hills Have Eyes 2 from 2007. I love Wes Craven, but even I burn out once in a while. Though I do promise to finish The Hills Have Eyes Series this month. The Haunting of Whaley House was a great film to cleans my palette, as its very heavy on the Camp. While I won 't go as far as to say that the characters are realistic, they are both like-able and very fun. When I saw the low score
for the sake of clarity: Ok, so I guess this story happened probably about fifteen years ago, maybe more than that. One of my parents’ friends had just bought a house. He and my parents’ other friend, names being Bill and Bernie, were going to the house to fix it up before Bill actually moved in. So, they’re looking around this house, and they were working on it for probably a week or two, and during the week they had noticed that there was this black door in the basement. And it had a red X mark
The Haunted House - Original Writing It was the Christmas holidays and beady eyes phased with curiosity were glazing over us. I felt as though everyone was staring at us, and we were now the central attention of our new, humble town, Gravesend. As our entire luggage was being unloaded, I noticed that everyone was glaring at us as if we did not belong here. I felt uncomfortable and insecure. The neighbourhood itself appeared rather pleasant and, on the road, children were playing with each

Now two ghosts wander through an occupied house that they lived in over a century ago in search of the hidden treasure. Evolution of a Haunted House: The use of setting in early and modern gothic novels The setting for a novel plays a big part in how the story and its characters relate to the reader. This paper will examine how setting in gothic literature, plays an important role in the telling of a story by using Horace Walpole’s The Castle of Otranto and Shirley Jackson’s The House on Haunted Hill as examples. During the eighteenth century, the Romantic period of literature emerged. The works of this time were
“The Japanese Quince”, “A Haunted House”, and “Hills Like White Elephants” all have themes of love, but each type of love is different from each other. One is the story of someone afraid to face their love, due to being ashamed. “A Haunted House” shares the love of a ghostly couple as they find their love in a young couple. “Hills Like White Elephants” reveals the terrors of a love gone wrong. Although, each of these short stories have different tone, mood, imagery, diction, and detail they all use
One of the motifs or themes that they deal with in Modernist novels is the theme of haunting, which we do not see in any Realist novel. In my essay, I am going to study this theme by referring to the various modernist works such as Rebecca, A Haunted House and The Painted Veil. The theme of haunting with its distinctiveness is widely associated with Modernism and it is highly studied in the novels of the Modernist type. Since the Modernist writers downplay the content for the sake of the investigation
symbol of the skull painted in blood upon the doors also did not make anysense to them either. Very few of the riders could recognize what it meant. There has to be a reason for this having happened there, but what. Tab burst into the nearest house, he looked fearful of what had happened here. There was no explanation for this to have happened to them. “DO you think, the religious leader of their kingdom
boxes in the back of the car. Connie Drywood huddled behind the steering wheel and stared through the windshield, presumably at a house, with a flat expression across her face as if it were every other house in America. By now she was used to the middle of nowhere. Dead leaves swooned in the yard. Loose shutters banged in the windows. It was November, a cold day and the house, with its slanted roof and yellow siding, looked a bit like an oversized wedge of cheddar cheese. Back when they had closed
The haunted house The scariest house that I have ever been was right next to my aunt 's house when I was almost 10 years old. An old lady with her cat used to live there. One day the lights went off, and you couldn’t hear any noise or see anybody. It looked like she left the house alone but no one really knew her and it was also common to see the house a few days abandoned. But this time was different and worse; it looked like she passed away but everyone was afraid to ask. No one went to the house
altogether. One lonesome Oak tree stood by the house swaying in the wind and as the wind swept by the tree whispered to the air and its surroundings. The moon shone bright white, in the cloudless sky, it was the only source of light that could be seen for miles. Owls occasionally fluttered by overhead, their silhouettes passing over the grass. The air was cold and numb and with every breath I drew a misty, chilly exhale followed. As the house drew nearer everything around me became quieter
my First Haunted House When I was younger I couldn’t imagine going to a haunted house with my Uncle Jon, Aunt Sam, and my four cousins Khristian, Jazmine, Felicity, and Lizzie who seem to not be afraid of anything when you were eight years old. I can because it happened to me. It seemed like I was the only one nervous on the drive up to the terrifying haunted house. As we got closer and I could tell this was going to be an eventful night. On October 27th, 2011 I went to a haunted house, the outside

For centuries, haunted houses have been a recurring theme in folklore and pop culture stories. A haunted house is a building or a structure that has been occupied by ghosts, spirits, and other paranormal forces. It is a popular belief that if a person dies tragically inside a house, their spirit is prone to haunt the house. Skeptics often dismiss the idea of a haunted house and look for logical and scientific explanations for paranormal incidents.
Haunted houses have always been an integral part of the horror-genre storytelling. Books, movies, television series, and web content have utilized the concept of haunted houses plenty of times. But not all stories about haunted houses are aimed at scaring readers. Virginia Woolf’s short story, “A Haunted House,” is the perfect example of such a story. In her story, Woolf describes the experiences of the narrator and her husband as they notice paranormal activities around the house. It tells the story of the spirits of a deceased husband and wife, who wander around the house in search of something missing. The narrator is assured that the ghosts are not going to harm them and learns that the dead couple were previous owners of the house. The story ends with the ghosts realizing that what they were looking for is the feeling of love and being loved that has been passed on to the narrator and her husband. Through her short story, Woolf highlights the feeling of love and loneliness.
Some other popular writers who have written about haunted houses are Edgar Allan Poe, Stephen King, Shirley Jackson, Scott Thomas, and David Mitchell. Over the years, a plethora of haunted houses have been identified, and a lot of them offer tours to thrill-seekers and paranormal enthusiasts.
