Too Much of a Good Thing
What would humanity achieve without the need for technology? In the 21st century, technology has offered a broad platform for people and is used for different reasons: shopping, work, for entertainment, education and communication worldwide. Although we use electronics everyday to help make our lives easier, the act of overusing technology has created an addition in society. In a recent study, 52% of teens claim that social media has made their friendships better (Wallace). While social media and all general technology are often used for positive reasons, it has also been proven that it can cause major issue within close relationships as well. Teenagers feel obligated to stay prompt and check their social media accounts 24/7 (Al-Khatib). Although many argue that social media connects families and friends, it creates negativity, distracts people from priorities, and creates a lack of physical interaction.
A large amount of negativity is caused by miscommunication due to not being in the same circumference as the person that you are talking to. Since social media gives the general public access to post almost anything, this privilege is often abused. Although the option of expressing opinions for the whole world to see is apart of freedom of speech, that still does not stop people from taking offense to what is being said. A great majority of people don 't just "friend" people that they know personally on their social media accounts, their: family, friends, co-workers, employers, classmates, and even teachers are becoming "friends." It distracts families and friends from actually participating in quality time. Most people tend to forget that in life, there is a time limit on everything and we should not be wasting most of it on social media. If society could learn to limit their time on social media and stop the habit of checking our phones every two minutes, production in priorities will increase. Yes, social media does have positive attributes; it allows us to access information quickly and get in touch with the ones we care for who aren 't physically around at the time. Nevertheless, the constant need to update statuses and check every social media account we have every five minutes could actually disconnect humanity. Besides, too much of anything is bad for anyone.
