Dave Ramsey has a passion for debt free living and he travels from coast to coast spreading the word. Dave has a huge following and those followers pay a small amount of money to spend the week-end listening to Dave speak about life changing steps you can take to be debt free. At first, the idea of listening to someone speak about money, credit cards, retirement, mortgages, investments and any other financial principles sounds monotonous and rather boring. However, when Dave speaks everyone listens. Dave does not look like a Hollywood star; he is just like any white collar professional. He always wears blue jeans, button down shirts and loafers. His stage doesn’t have an elaborate background or fancy effects only simple back lighting. A small table sits stage right and only has one purpose, to hold his notes. Dave never stands behind the table; he continues to move all over the stage and sometimes into the crowd of listeners. So how could this be a fun filled, sold out event? Dave takes a simple concept like debt, adds visual aids and the speech becomes a comedy, a serious moment and a life changing event. Without the visual aids the speech would be jammed packed with boring statistics but Dave keeps the crowd laughing and surprised with all the visual aids to illustrate his secret about debt. The simple visual aid of scissors is a rather blunt way of showing the audience what needs to be done to credit cards. My Personal Insight
I have always been a visual learner. I have been known to ask someone to draw me a picture so I can understand what they are trying to explain. I have a tendency to let my mind wander when listening to someone speak. I seem to listen and learn when visual aids are used in a presentation. I attended the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University and I came away with so much knowledge and information and I have been able to share what I had learned. All the financial jargon confused me but once Dave pulled out the visual aids I began to understand the concepts he was trying to teach. What I thought was going to be a boring, technical speech turned out to be one of the most informative, comical, fun events all because of the giant scissors illustrating cutting out debt!

The importance of this topic to me is that this is what I want to do when I get older. I enjoy working with these children and helping them to learn while learning myself. I want to do this project because I want to learn more about children with disabilities and "ordinary" children that then of what I already know. I got involved in this subject last year while I was in Government Class with Mrs. Leach. I was looking to do something for my community service hours but I didn't want something boring to do. Mrs. Leach came up to me and asked me if I would be interested in working at William Grace Elementary in the special needs classroom. I said ok, boy am I happy I said yes. That was a great learning experience for me. My interest in working with children has always been there ever since I was little. My mom always tells me that since I was little I had a way with children. No matter if they were older, younger, or even my same age. My topic fits my personality because I love people. I love talking with, listening to, and helping all different types of people with all different types of situations. I work well with all types of different people too so I am usually found to be very friendly. It connects to my life in many different ways. In one way I work at a daycare where I am running into different types of children with all different types of needs almost everyday. Another situation it runs in with is the fact that I want to be a special needs k-8 teacher when I get older and I also be able to work with "ordinary" second grade kids.
I’m a visual learner. To start off, I learn best by reading and seeing pictures, to do this i need to sit up in front of the classroom, during tests, I don´t get distracted easy. Next, I will use flashcards to learn new words and i will try to visualize things as I hear people read to me. Also, most of the times I like to read myself and picture and imagine things in the book. As a result, I know my style and I can become a better and smarter

Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).

In public speaking I learned many types of concepts, theories and terms of communication. In concepts of publicly speaking there’s, relaxation, practice, credibility, attention getters, attire, organization, volume, emotion, audience relation, and movement. In my first speech, “The any old bag speech” I quickly learned the do’s, don’ts and concepts of my speech performance.
Visual Communication could be described as processes that rely primarily on rich visual content as the means of conveying information through words, photos, colors, shapes, and many other components. However, visual communication explores the use of graphical components in achieving communication goals. Visual communication has both critical and practical parts. According to the current book we use in the class “Visual Communication, Images with Messages”, the critical part of visual communication is known as visual rhetoric, which explores the way that designers use visual elements to influence audiences.
Using videos in the classroom provides multiple avenues for learning. Not only do students learn by seeing, but this also helped students develop auditory skills to be able to listen. Because visual learners learn by seeing, I can use maps to help students better understand concepts in social studies or history. Seeing where the pioneers traveled as well as talking about the climate and harsh conditions will allow the students to make sense of how the people had to survive. Another way I can utilize my talents are making posters with eye-catching cartoon characters. This will provide an opportunity for me to be creative and draw, but also make the subjects more appealing for when the posters are hung in the classroom. Graphs will prove to be helpful in math because I can do an experience, but also mark the results using a chart to provide a visual. This will also provide lessons in visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. Graphic organizers will be used a lot to compare and contrast two stories. In order to successfully deliver an oral presentation such as a speech, the speaker must follow certain procedures to ensure his message can be conveyed clearly. Vast amounts of research are essential in order to acquire the knowledge necessary to be able to speak about a topic comfortably and answer any questions the audience might have during the course of the presentation. After acquiring such knowledge about the topic of the presentation the speaker will feel more confident, confidence is key in delivering speeches and other oral presentations because it makes the speaker look more credible and trustworthy. The way we communicate can be very important in representing ourselves in our community. In the beginning, of the semester, we watched a movie regarding a royal member whom was looked down upon because of his verbal pauses. However, throughout the movie he learns to work with his speaking style. He may have not completely eliminated the flaw but, he did learn how to overcome and adjust with it is style of public speaking. Public speaking is very power it as the authority to make an audience shock, upset, surprised, disbelief, and even to become inspired. By using structure in a speech and applying ethos, pathos, and logos can create a deeper connection to the audience. Therefore, the most impactful part of a speech is its introduction. Such that if the speaker implies a power attention getter they are able to deliver their message successfully. In my class presentation, the times I won speaker of the day I noticed that within my speech the only reason why I was selected was because I provided a strong attention getter and because my voice was very loud and it had minimal of verbal pauses. I have learned that any speech can be delivered successfully when the elements of structure and practiced are present.
