Hamlet is one of the most analyzed characters of all plays. He shows various psychological characteristics that are still questioned by critics today. Shakespeare’s Hamlet is yet another masterpiece, and again, Shakespeare has created a vivid character that will be tucked away in our memories. Hamlet’s madness and actions all contribute to the mystery of his character. After the Ghost reveals the truth of its death, Hamlet makes a commitment to wipe his mind clean of all trivial matters and memories; he would only focus on the revenge that the Ghost commanded. His “clean slate” quickly fills up and Hamlet becomes torn apart by the two conflicting forces of action and inaction.

Hamlet’s conflict is caused by the Ghost’s request to kill Claudius. The Ghost resembles the late King Hamlet, but Hamlet is not sure if he should trust the Ghost or not. It could possibly be Satan in disguise. Unlike most fictional characters, Hamlet takes time to question the circumstances, which delays his plot for revenge.
