When people think of a healthy lifestyle, they tend to think of people that live in the gym everyday and are probably vegan or vegetarian. Being healthy isn’t about living in gym every day for hours on end; it actually is the exact opposite. Having a healthy lifestyle isn’t a hard thing to do. Eating healthy is probably the hardest of them all though. Who doesn’t love a nice greasy cheeseburger, loaded down with some mayonnaise and all the fixings? Unfortunately, eating like that and doing little to no physical activity will inadvertently shorten your lifespan and can impair your overall quality of life. It can be so beneficial to change your eating habits, your lifestyle, and get active so you can live a longer, healthier life. Being healthy includes more than just eating right and being active. You should also manage your stress, watch your weight, get yearly testing for cholesterol, certain cancers, diabetes, blood pressure, and quit bad habits such as smoking and drinking in excess. Some factors you can’t control, such as your genetics or your age, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing anything you set your mind to. Your quality of life is all what you make it, or what you want it to be. If you lay around every day, eat less than par food, smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day, you’re more than likely not going to have the best quality of life. You’ll end up getting stressed out because you can’t fit into those favorite jeans anymore and you won’t be able to breathe because all that tar and other chemicals in cigarettes will be affecting your lungs. What kind of life is that? By changing a few simple things in your everyday life, you can drastically reduce your chances of diabetes, heart disease, strokes, even cancer... ... middle of paper ... ... to them to get the stress off your chest. Get organized; this allows you to focus on the most important tasks, what isn’t as important can wait. Always laugh; laughing out loud, at yourself, a joke, laughter just makes you feel good. Do your best not to worry; accept the things that are out of your control and you can’t change. The world won’t end tomorrow if you don’t get the last load of laundry done, or the living room doesn’t get vacuumed today; take some time and just relax and enjoy your life. Being healthy, being active, and having an overall better outlook on how your life can be can dramatically change how you feel, how you act, and how you perceive yourself and your improve your overall wellbeing. It might not be the most fun thing to start, but it can dramatically change your life. So, get out there, get active, and love the one life you live.
Healthy eating is not the only way to stay healthy, you can eat as healthy as you want but without doing some amount of exercise daily you can still get health problems like heart disease, stroke etc.

What does it mean to be healthy? It is a question that has been posed to us repeatedly in this class. With the start of a new semester, I have given up some of my healthy habits and have had to refine my views on what it means to be healthy. My view on the concept of good health is that it is anything that allows for you to live as long and as fully as you possibly can. But what does that mean exactly for me? I can’t say for certain what that answer is to me, but I can reason how my view has changed recently.
The majority of people in this society try to exercise and eat right to stay healthy. The problem is that they worry more about exercising and not getting good nutrition. They do not understand that exercise is not enough to be healthy. In order to be healthy, people should be aware of what they eat. This may not be easy for everyone, but one can get support from family and friends in order for it to be easy. Good nutrition is more important than regular exercise because it helps in losing weight, helps to fuel the body, prevent the risk of getting diseases, and helps building muscles.
In conclusion, having a healthy lifestyle helps reduce the risk of health problems, whether you have a family history of diseases or not. Physical activity, and making smart choices with how much you consume and what you consume can expand your lifespan. Being aware of your body composition can help identify your risk classification, and it can help plan a way to avoid diseases. Just like too much body fat can be harmful to health, having too little fat can also be crucial to a person’s health. The goal should be to have a balanced calorie intake and physical activity (calorie in = calorie out) for a healthy lifestyle.
Happy, confident, energetic, strong and healthy are all qualities an individual wants. The real question is, how bad do they want it? It is really not as hard as it seems. Gradually changing your life into a well balanced, healthy lifestyle can be done. It may be hard getting rid of old habits, but it is well worth it. Start with little changes and less excuses. Living a healthy lifestyle is not a diet or some ridiculous weight loss challenge. A healthy lifestyle is about moderation, balance and simple substitutions.

Having a healthy body can contribute to an individual’s overall well being and happiness. In the reading about virtue and health by Gary Ferngren, we learn about the meaning of ‘virtue’ in the ancient world which referred to the “quality or proficiency of men…” instead of in reference to moral behavior (Ferngren 176). The Greeks considered health to be essential to one’s virtue. Maintaining a healthy diet will help an individual perform better. Personally, I find that healthy habits are beneficial and uplifting for the soul. Those days when I eat right and am active, I am in high spirits, I feel good, and I am more motivated to achieve things. According to new US dietary guidelines, most Americans “don’t get enough health-enhancing and disease-preventing nutrients” which is a major problem that is not only physically detrimental, but also discouraging in terms of one’s mental health (Mayo Clinic Staff, “New dietary guidelines” 3). When I feel healthy on the inside, I have greater self-esteem and confidence and this is really important when it comes to how others view themselves or they potential. It also helps to maintain a positive outlook on
