Thoughts After Watching Ancient Futures Learning from Ladakh and Planet in Peril

Spending my free time on the Internet or in front of a television are my main forms of learning. Even though I do learn a lot of new things on a daily basis from blogs and news hubs, I must say the best form of learning will always be in the classroom. After watching Ancient Futures Learning from Ladakh and Planet in Peril I learned that I am simply oblivious of what occurs in the world. It is incredible to have the opportunity in a few hours to see how other people live in so many different parts of the world. The films inspired me to want to travel more and experience things that I do not get to in New Jersey.

Wanting to travel more may be an odd reaction to the films we saw in class but my points for wanting to do so are valid. There are many reasons why people people travel. Some people travel because they need a vacation, while other do so because they are on a business trip. No matter the reason we travel we always come back learning something new. Cultures change from state to state, and we learned this specifically in the films. I’d love to have the opportunity to be Anderson Cooper or the other reporters and travel the world like they do. It’s one thing to watch a film and it is another to actually experience it first hand. One scene that specifically stands out is one of the more graphic parts of the the film. The scene is with CNN news reporter Lisa Ling reporting the death of an elephant. The elephant was just killed a few days and the smell is so putrid it almost brings her to tears. Watching that scene made me so angry because it was confusing to me why people would do such a thing to an innocent creature. ...e who wants to create a business I’d love one day to create a clothing brand created on the basis of sustainability. My behavior has changed more because I worry about how my choices affect the planet. Seeing the MEND in Planet in Peril directly affects my thoughts at work. Since I work for a company that uses diesel fuel to move their entire fleet of equipment I make a more serious effort to explain to my colleagues to eliminate idle times and think more consciously of their decision on the road.

In the end both films have made me want to live a lifestyle of the journalist. I believe that I am oblivious to the world because I haven’t traveled as much as I can. I learned so much and as a result teach people how to be more conscious of their choices. I’d hope with what I learn that I could create better business practices and help create a smarter society.
