He was never a president of the United States, nor did he lead any army in a battle. He had no talent in public speaking, preferring to write out his thoughts on paper and for them to be read aloud by others. Yet in his day he was certainly one of the most well known celebrities, beloved in both the United States and through most of Europe. He is Benjamin Franklin, and he has become a symbol of American civilization.

Some of his inventions include the photograph, the motion picture the electrographic vote recorder, and his most famous invention the light bulb. Thomas edison started working on his igea of a light bulb in 1878. He envisioned it as a oil and gas based light that would be longlasting that could be used indoors instead of having to use the outdoor light. He based his ideas on other people's inventions such as Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans. He found that there were many flaws with where light sources and planned on creating a whole different approach to building his light build that would fix all on the problems. Thomas Edison light bulb consisted of a carbon filament. It took him many tries before he successfully tested his lightbulb which lasted thirteen and a half hours. His carbon light bulb became a patent on November 4, 1879. Even though the light bulb was already patent Thomas Edison still found more ways to improve it. He discovered that carbonized bamboo filament could last 1,200 hours, so Edison decided to form the Edison Electric Light Company where he could publicly sell his new light bulbs and have access to new supplies where he can improve and manufacture his carbon light bulbs. Thomas edison created a whole new way of access to working and living environments that impacted history in a great
Stephen Toulmin noticed that good, realistic arguments typically will consist of six parts. He used these terms to describe the items. Data answers the question, “What have you got to go on?” Data is facts or evidence used that proves the argument. Without data clearly present or strongly implied, an argument has no informative or substantive component, no factual point of departure. Claim is the statement being argued, a thesis. It is always of a potentially controversial nature is the explicit appeal produced by the argument. A claim may stand as the final theory in an argument. The data and claim together may be regarded as its main proof line. Warrant the general, hypothetical (and often implicit) logical statements that serve as bridges between the claim and the data, it is the “leap” involved in advancing from data to claim. The warrant answers the question “How do you get there.” Its function is to carry the accepted data to the doubted or disbelieved proposition which establishes the claim, thereby confirming this claim as true or acceptable. Toulmin recognizes a second triad of components which may but need not necessarily to be present in an argument. He calls these the backing, rebuttal and qualifier. The backing is statements the serve to support the warrant. The rebuttal is counter-arguments or statements indicating circumstances when the general argument does
"If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading, or do things worth the writing." Having followed his own words of wisdom, Benjamin Franklin made an everlasting mark on America since his early days as a printing apprentice.
When talking about an argument, it should be written in a manner that unfolds both the strengths and limits of the argument. The point of an argument is to come to a conclusion as close to the truth or realistic solution. In the twentieth-century, British philosopher Stephen Toulmin asked the question of where is the love and what are the uses of an argument. Stephen Toulmin then conducted a method constructing and analyzing an argument. This method, named after Stephen Toulmin, is called the Toulmin model. The Toulmin model involves breaking down an argument into six basic parts, looking at all supporting points and views both for and against the argument.
Benjamin Franklin was one of the most significant figures during the 18th century. The significance of Benjamin Franklin can be observed through his contributions to society. Such contributions include his profession as a printer, the creation of the first subscription library, the creation of Poor Richard’s Almanac, and his experiments with electricity. In addition, Franklin also tried to reconcile the differences between England and America, and when that proved futile, he traveled to France in an attempt to convince the French to support America in their quest for independence from England. At one point in time Benjamin Franklin was the most famous American on the planet.
The Toulmin method effectively analyzes and dissects different parts of arguments and allows people to form judgements on how well the different parts of the arguments work together. “Is Education Primarily the Result of Influences Other Than School” analyzes the roles that specific factors play in the education of individuals, specifically the role that school plays. The author effectively explains their warrant and coherently presents the claim. This argumentative paper does not provide adequate evidence to support its claim, does not utilize qualifiers, and does not provide sufficient rebuttals to counterarguments.
All throughout American history there has many intelligent individuals that have played significant role in our society. I believe Thomas Edison has been one of the most influential people. He was an American inventor who is considered one of America’s leading businessman. People today credit him for helping to build America’s economy during the nation’s vulnerable early years. Thomas had a very good childhood and was a very hard worker as a teenager. He invented the universal stock printer and he perfected the lightbulb.
Nikola Tesla was born midnight on July 10, 1856, in Smiljan, Lika, which at that time was part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, which is now known as Croatia. His father was named Milutin Tesla and he was a Serbian Orthodox Priest. Djuka Mandic was his mother and she invented household appliances. Tesla was the fourth child of five, having one older brother and three younger sisters. In 1873, Tesla studied at the the Polytechnic Institute in Graz, Austria and the University of Prague. At first, he wanted to pursue in physics and mathematics, but shortly after he became extremely interested in electricity. He began studying alternating current their also. Supposedly he had a photographic memory being able to memorize complete books. In December 1878, he left Graz and his family. In 1881, he started his career as an electrical engineer working for a telephone company in Budapest. It was around that time that Tesla was able to discover the solution for the rotating magnetic field. He was able to describe the basics of the induction motor to his peers. Later his alternating current induction motor would be considered one of the ten greatest discoveries of all time. Before coming to America, Tesla joined the Continental Edison Company in Paris where he designed. In February 1882, Tesla discovered the rotating magnetic field, an important principle in physics and it was also the start to pretty much all devices that use alternating current. In 1883, he secretly built a prototype of the induction motor which he was able to run successfully. Nobody in Europe cared about promoting his unqualified device, Tesla then accepted an offer to work for Thomas Edison in New York. His childhood dream was to come to America and to be able to grasp ...
One of the most well known technological innovator and manufacturer was Thomas Alva Edison. He invented many devices which are still being used today, with some modifications. He even built a vote-recording device before he was twenty-one. Some inventions were the phonograph, incandescent light bulb, and the kinetoscope, which was much like a motion picture camera. In total, he has patented 1,093 inventions. He earned the nickname “The Wizard of Menlo Park”.
Thomas Edison had many positive traits that were a major influence on both the people of the time and people today. Edison was an inventor, and his innovations were a major factor of his influence on the world. Edison once said, "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work" ("Opportunity", N.D.). This quote shows Edison's motivation. This is just one of Edison's many traits. There are many more influential traits that came about throughout Edison's life such as his curiosity, motivation, inspiration, and perseverance.
Throughout human history, we have had many great scientists such as Sir Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein who are still known to this day as geniuses, and Thomas Alva Edison is no exception to this select group. Thomas Edison is known as one of the greatest inventors in history, even earning a Congressional Medal of Honor for his contributions to mankind. He is the inventor of the light bulb and the father of direct current electricity, two things that have had a huge impact on society. However, despite all of the great things he would later be known for, he did not start off as successful as we would all think. His first patent, the vote recorder was actually a failure that forever changed his way of thinking as well as how he would create future
In 1879, after spending $40,000, and performing 1,200 experiments, he succeeded. He made a light bulb using carbonized filaments from cotton thread. Carbonized thread is ordinary cotton sewing thread that has been burned to an ash. The light bulb burned for two days. The electric light took the greatest amount of time and required the most complicated experiments of all his experiments.
Thomas Alva Edison is one of the most famous inventors. He saw many changes take place in his lifetime. His inventions were responsible for many of those changes. Some of his inventions were the telephone, the light bulb, the movie projector, and the phonograph. These inventions contributed to modern day, lights, movies, telephones, records and CDs. When Edison was born, there was no such thing as electricity, but by the time he died entire cities were lit by electricity (www.minot.k12.nd.us/edison.html).
