For those out there who believe the Barack Obama has cared about creating jobs in this country—I’m sorry, but I’m about to give you some bad news. He never has or will care about jobs. Why? It’s not the way Democrats think. I mean come on, why would they want you to have a job? They are still trying to blame Bush and the Republicans for the mess they have “inherited” and are asking you for patience. What they forgot is that this is the same party that told you that if you elected them, they would right the ship in no time—which explained the massive liberal victories in 2006 and 2008. However, since the Democrats have taken majority in the House and Senate—they have not done a damn thing to improve the unemployment situation. With the midterms coming in the next few months, do not be surprised if you see a sudden surge in attention to jobs and job creation. Nearly ten percent of Americans are out of work—most of them either applying or receiving unemployment benefits. Due to this, there have been nearly 850,000 foreclosures thus far in 2010. Thus far, the President has not gotten the message that it is jobs that will kick start the American economy out of this recession. Now, the left will argue that the stimulus bill was a jobs bill. They will argue that they just passed another $18.5 billion in a jobs bill. However, you cannot throw money at jobs. In order for jobs to be created—you have to create an environment for employers. By allowing people to obtain credit to start small businesses, giving tax breaks to international corporations to hire American workers, instead of outsourcing to nations such as India and China. This is how you build up an economy.
Instead, the President pressed on with healthcare—stating that it too, h...

...rats have had one focus: Fight the terrorists who “actually” attacked us. Now I do not disagree with that statement entirely, but let’s not be naïve. The fight against terrorism is everywhere—including our own backyard. The Taliban and Al Qaeda have strongholds in several foreign countries and they have jihadists here infiltrating as students, taxicab drivers, and average citizens. We can’t limit our fight to just Afghanistan or Iraq—we have to be on the watch for Iran, Pakistan, Yemen, Indonesia, and Ethiopia. I’m not saying that we should invade those countries—we should be on the lookout for trouble before trouble finds us.
National security begins at home. Tightening immigration standards such as student VISAs and undocumented workers would benefit America. We can control the threat from the outside; however, we cannot fully control the threat from within.
President Barack Obama signed The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on February 17th, 2009 into law. This Act was an effort to jump-start the economy, and also to save and create millions of jobs in America. Obama selected Vice President Joe Biden to over look the application of the Act, while working with cabinet members, the nations governors, and mayors to make sure the implementation of the Recovery Act are not abrupt, but as efficient and effective as Obama intended. The Recovery Act called for $825 Billion which changed as it moved through Congress. However, in doing this it stirred up a lot of commotion with the Republicans within Congress, who favored a different approach to the economic dilemma. The Recovery Act is essentially an expansionary fiscal policy, in that it wants to increase government spending while decreasing taxes. The Act included $550 Billion to be spent within the first two years of it being implemented, much more than the government spends annually on programs. Which is not including defense and benefit programs such as Medicare and Social Security. Most of the $275 Billion in tax cuts would be going to the middle-income families in the form of $1,000 tax cuts, while businesses and other tax cuts would make up the rest. About $318 Billion would go to states and local governments facing the possibility of layoffs and/or tax increases. Another $102 Billion would be used to help victims of the recession with unemployment insurance, health care, food stamps and job training, jobless aid would also be increased by an extra $25 a week. As we can see the evidence is clear and growing by the day, the Recovery Act is working to soften the greatest economic downfall since the Great Depression and is laying ...
A key to victory this November is the unemployment rate. According to a Bloomberg National Poll conducted in March 8-11, 42% of Americans consider unemployment and jobs as “the most important issue facing the country right now” (Priorities). Although there has been 24 consecutive months of private sector employment growth, the Federal Reserve suggests that the numbers could fade in the coming months. The importance of creating more jobs cannot be stressed enough. No President in the recent era has been reelected with the unemployment rate above 7.2% (Roth). To paint a picture, in late 1982, the unemployment rate topped 10.8 under Ronald Reagan. However, about 36 months later, the rate dropped to 7.2% percent. The drastic drop in the n...
Franklin D. Roosevelt once asserted “I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people,” in belief for a change, for a better nation, and for guidance to those who have lost all faith in humanity. During the Great Depression, The United States faced many different scenarios in which it caused people to doubt and question the “American Dream.” The Great depression began in 1929 and ended in 1939. In these ten years, people went through unemployment, poverty, banks failed and people lost hope. President Herbert Hoover thought it wasn’t his responsibility to try and fix such issues in the nation. He felt it was just something that everyone was facing and it will be over soon enough. However, years passed and nothing seemed to
This problem must be dealt with immediately with strong action. I suggest implementing federal public works projects as a way of creating jobs without burdening the government with additional expenses. Ideas for these public works projects are: the construction of a Saint Lawrence Seaway, and an Interstate Highway System. This system would be a massive undertaking and would be one of the largest construction projects of all time, but it would create many jobs for Americans who are no longer employed by the war effort (Branyan and Larsen, 251). The Republican party has not been happy with the nation's economic policies for quite some time.
Our military campaigns in Afghanistan eliminated a regime that supported terrorism and other violent groups. Today in Afghanistan there is no regime and the country is rebuilding it self from the ruins of Soviet war. John Ashcroft who is now the famous man on TV is probably the only one who takes the problem seriously. He said that he wants to check for people who have connections with the Alquida and its cells. But some people say it’s unconstitutional to do that, but in 1700’s or even 1800’s terrorists did not attack America. That means that our finding fathers did not had to deal with Ottoman Empire nor their attacks because we were protected by oceans. Even in the old days constitution was not a factor for some people to do something immoral or illegal.
...e number of Immigration and Naturalization officers as well as adding increased fines for employers with illegal workers. Without these or other solutions, the loss of money and jobs will continue. If the loss of these resources continues, the U.S. might become the land of "closed doors," thereby ending the dream of many legal immigrants and shutting the books on the most open and free country in the world.
...e private sector to find new growth opportunities and create new jobs. Furthermore, America always has been, and always will be a country of immigrants. Despite that rich tradition, Congress has not updated the country’s immigration policies in three decades. However, Congress now has an opportunity to fix the immigration system and improve the economic well-being of all Americans. Failure to address the issue will have severe consequences for America’s future and well-being, and that is why how America reforms the immigration system will determine its future. The current immigration system is outdated, broken, and reveals that Comprehensive Immigration Reform is urgently needed, and is good for America’s workers and the economy. Despite the claims, complaints and the resistance of many, Americans should welcome, accept and support Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
The level of unemployment in America is at a record low. Almost every able-bodied American is on the job working towards their American dream, and we, the Democratic Party, will not be satisfied until everyone can enjoy their American dream. Through Democratic leadership, the quality of life in America has vastly improved. America’s education system is improving, the environment is cleaner, families are healthier, and our streets are safer. Today, any American can claim that their lives are better off than they were 8 years ago.
The United States offers 11 million undocumented workers legal statuses, and visas which can increase its national security (Furchtgott-Roth, 4 Benefits). These workers will be able to have social security numbers and other legal papers that make it easy for government authorities to track down criminals. This is a crucial tactic, especially when our world is dealing with the war on terror.
Whether it may have positive effects or negative ones, there’s no question that illegal immigration is an issue that cannot be ignored. And the problem isn’t necessarily finding a solution to help slow or prevent illegal immigration. It’s figuring out which solution will work the best for us. We will always encourage foreigners to come to our country, just as long as the proper steps are taken to do
In the words of Ronald Regan “A nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation.” Many feel that illegal immigration is a growing concern for our nation, and securing our borders is most so that we can protect our homeland and preserving our freedom. They say these Illegals take jobs and deny opportunities for American citizens who have made worked hard to gain citizenship in a legal way.
...h the problem internally and fortifying the country’s borders will help us ensure our country remains safe and flourishes.
workers so they would not have to come over illegally. Improving the work visa program will help the government figure out which immigrants are overstaying in America. If an immigrant goes into the U.S. and their visa runs out the chances of the government knowing is zero. Implementing stricter immigration rules, including background checks, verification of employment and interviews will help catch illegal immigrants. Unless the government and other responsible agencies start to implement better visa programs, it will be impossible for us to eliminate this illegal immigration
Over the past 10 years the number of illegal immigrant in the United States has risen from 5-12 million. This eventually opens the eyes of policyholders to the effects of illegal immigration on incomes and public finances, as well as potential safety threats posed by unauthorized entry into the states. President Bush signed into the secure fence act which authorized the spending of $1.2 billion for the construction of a seven-hundred-mile fence along the U.S- Mexico border. I guess this was the only solution to actually try to cut down the amount of illegal immigrants that were invading the U.S.
In conclusion, it is imperative that the United States continue its fight against terrorism.
