Why do people have to understanding what thermodynamics is and what impacts it has in our society? In lecture “ Thermodynamics and Kinetics” of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Moungi Bawendi focuses his attention on what the definition of thermodynamics is and how its laws are very important to apply to the thermodynamics’ calculations. Bawendi did a good job by saying that it is very essential for students, especially for those from engineering, to understand the thermodynamics’ concepts. Although, some students think that thermodynamics is one more lesson to learn, they should learn the connection between thermodynamics and internal combustion engine, know the empirical rules and identify the specific systems, in order to solve physical problems.
Moungi Bawendi (2008), reveals In lecture “ Thermodynamics and Kinetics” of Massachusetts Institute of Technology that thermodynamics started appearing into physical realm when fossil fuels began creating carbon dioxide emission’s problem on the environment leading to global warming. He defines thermodynamic as the science of the flow of heat where thermo means heat and dynamic means motion. Furthermore, thermodynamics involve empirical rules and laws observation that can be applied to solve economic and microscopy problems. Bawendi points out that empirical rules have four methods involving: first, zero law means the temperature (T) that is a common sense. Second, first law is energy (U) in which people can brake even law and entropy (S) is the concept of the time where people can brake even at zero degree kelvin. Finally, third law is numerical value to entropy that people cannot get at zero degree kelvin, however, all these laws are very universal...

In conclusion, learning the relationship between thermodynamics and internal combustion engine, identifying the specific systems and knowing the empirical rules, engineering students will be ready to solve the physical complications based on thermodynamics. However, understanding how thermodynamics can at some points influence people’s lives is one more reason to encourage those to learn at least thermodynamics’ basis. As long as engineering students keep studying the thermodynamics’ concepts, they will be capable to accomplish their goals in the workplace and to solving other problems, which are not related to thermodynamics.
