Introduction In this essay, I will review performance management which is the article’s theory, application of the theory in my research, global implication of the theory and evaluate the author(s) method of research.

Theory Gillian Forrester highlights the theory of performance management in her 2011 article Performance Management in education: milestone or millstone, and all of its implications. Although the article refers to performance management in terms of education, there are numerous links between education and business practices on a global scale. Perhaps the big struggle in this area is the way performance management is perceived by both employer and employee. Gillian Forrester (2011) writes, “Performance, arguably, is a demonstrative act which embraces results as well as the effective use of appropriate skills, knowledge, competences and behaviours to achieve them” (Forrester, 2011). The challenge is for Corporations to cultivate all of these aspects of performance and deliver them to employees in a manner that drive positive results. In addition, corporations must work to change the negative perception that many employees have on performance management. There are many other implications that drive performance management and several different outcomes that derive from PM notably performance related pay and promotion.
Global implications of the theory
The notion of performance management is infused in every aspect of corporations on a global scale. As countries try to become more competitive, each country thinks about new ways in which to positions themselves better in the global market. Corporations have adopted strategies in an attempt to educate their work forces with new initiatives and products and have adopted some form of performance managements to track success and manage their employees in attempts to achieve the best …show more content…

At the start of the article, she very clearly stated what the article would explore and followed a logical sequence. She gave historical back ground on performance management as it related to both the public and private sectors. She illustrated all of different implications of performance management without a bias voice throughout her article. Rather, stated the different point of views from the evidence based research she gathered and let the reader surmise their own conclusion about the theory. Moreover, there was an extensive reference list at the end of the article which was all scholarly works. By her closing paragraph, Forrester does not make a statement or form an opinion on the topic.
