The development of mankind, is an extraordinary thing to study. Through the use of history, human society continues to evolve. There have been multiple questions and concerns about the true knowledge of how we came to be. How were humans able to adapt, grow, and expand their horizons to what we have now, known as modern day. In regards to Chapter 1, there are several possible answers to consider based on the aftermath of our present time frame. These "answers" are known as the top 5 main theories that society lived by. Though all 5 theories hold great value in human society, there are a few theories that impact human development more. These are Cognitive Theory, Behaviorism, and Humanism.

What often confuses one person train of thought, may seem like a great revelation to another. When entering a new playing field, individuals have already placed some particular expectations (known as a psychological guide or map) that allows them to, somewhat, prepare their mind and body. However, the things that are usually assumed are often false by default. In order to readjust the mind to think more objectively, the use of plasticity may help open our cognitive thinking pattern. The concept of plasticity in development provides both hope and realism-hope because change is possible, and realism because development builds on what has come before.” (pg. 20) Similar to Cognitive Theory, plasticity revolves around the truth of reality though we still sometimes based current experiences on past ones. We look forward to filling the void of loneliness and empty. However, those feelings can often get us in to more trouble than good. Based on the 5 basic terms of Humanism approach, society has first made way to produce consumer demands for food, shelter, and viable drinking utilities. The security of this is through the formation of laws being passed, to authorized access to these important resources. The next two steps related to the approach of Humanism is Safety (installed police department and ability to bear weapons), and belonging and love (interactions with family and friends). From the last two step, self-actualization and esteem, both are often influenced by the first three steps towards Humanism (especially the belonging and love portion). Through looking for what we desire the most, there are times when we make mistakes because the places we look towards to obtain that fulfillment is not trying what we need. Everyone needs love, but (unfortunately) not everyone is able to receive, in order to identify later to give back the right way. The same premises with all the other steps. Being human means to be unique and to be constantly striving for a better life. The community is shaped by every individual’s desire and path to acquire a life worth living. The individual’s desire for a fulfilled life is molded by the interactions and experiences one may encounter. It is through these experiences, that one discovers his or her place within their community. However, just because the individual is striving for the best that life can offer, does not mean that the ideas and morals of the individual coincide with that of the collective community. In life, humanity is on a journey much like walking through a forest full of trees that requires consistent observation while navigating the path traveled. Remaining on course is a very important part of arriving at the destination of achievement and success. There is no way to have complete certainty of always arriving on time, as all the variables come into the picture of that journey which psychology also does in relation to the mind. The psychodynamic theory in comparison to the cognitive behavior theory is somewhat well viewed in focus of examining the mental process of what one does based upon what one has thought of doing. To consider the contrast of both, potentially has a foundation in approaching each from different angles of perspective in order to understand and alter the potential results therein. In a comparison and contrast of these practiced theories, it would help to understand some important key perspectives within them.
Behaviorism is one of the many schools of psychology and it has one main overall focus. The main overall focus is it studies how a human behaves and is supposed to behave in order to detect human behavior discrepancies. As a behaviorist view, everything you see has a set behavior and should perform a certain, similar to robots. Watson stated that “psychology as a behaviorist views it is a purely objective experimental branch of natural science. Its theoretical goal is … prediction and control” (1913, p.158).
The humanistic perspective takes into consideration of the hierarchy of needs that a person has and then contemplates on the ones that are most important. Human beings normally have unique needs and each need is important. These needs include: physiological needs, safety, self-esteem, love as well as actualization. Behaviorism is a branch of psychology that has a theoretical approach that gives emphasis to the study of behavior in place of the subject of the mind or the physiological correlates of one's behavior. Behavior is the externally visible response to a stimulus of an animal or human (Weidman). B.F. Skinner is one of the most prominent psychologists of the study of behaviorism. Skinner was on the advance of behaviorism. B.F. Skinner created a group of theories that set out to prove that subjective impetus is not what behavior in humans and animals is so much based on but that behavior is more based on possible reward received and chastisement applied to the animal or human (Newsmakers). Skinner entered into the branch of behaviorism in the 1920s. Behaviorism was still a fairly new branch to psychology at this time. However, Skinner's experiments in his libratory were broadly consideration to be electrifying and ground-breaking, illuminating an knowledge of human behavior and logistics (Newsmakers). Skinner called such behavior based on possible reward received and chastisement that was followed by the repetition of that behavior operant.

Today’s classrooms are designed after a few key theories. One of which is behaviorism. Behaviorism is the idea that we can control others through intervention as a higher order of animals. One of the guiding principles of behaviorism is scheduling, which helps initiate behaviorism strategies of learning. One of those strategies is contracting in which a teacher and a student negotiate to create a desirable outcome. Another is a token economy which uses contracting and scheduling to produce systematic results. In addition, prompting is the idea that a student will know what to do if a certain activity occurs. Modeling is simply the idea that your behavior will determine that of your students. Finally, Rote learning is the concept of use it

Behaviorists emphasize the relationship between the environment surrounding a person and how it affects a person’s behavior. Skinner was one of the most influential thinkers during the decline of behaviorism and the rise of experimental psychology.
“Behavior theory consists of ideas about how human actions and emotions develop, are sustained, and are extinguished through principles of learning” (Walsh, 2010). Positive and negative reinforcement is used to help manipulate the behaviors of the individual. The theory has been used to help eliminate unwanted behaviors. In addition, behavior theory has been use primarily with children, and persons with developmental disabilities. According to Walsh (2010) behavior theory evolved in the 1960s from a field of philosophy to the field of science. Ivan Pavlov discovered classical conditioning, which plays a major role in behavioral theory. Classical conditioning is the process of learning through ones surroundings, conditioned, and unconditioned stimuli and response. B. F. Skinner discovered operant conditioning the process of learning to influence the future responses to the environment (Clark, 2004). The two concepts has been used throughout the behavior theory to help assist clients with unacceptable behaviors that is occurring. The combination of the two concepts has been a very helpful aspect to the behavior theory. Both concepts offer a different approach or solution to the behavior of the client.
In summary, the human development is not exclusively limited to one formation. The complexity of human biology mixed with varying living and social environments
There are many theories associated with developmental psychology, which studies the scientific process and cause of human development over the course of our lives. Developmental psychologists study a wide range of theoretical areas, such as biological, social, emotional, and cognitive processes (McLeod, S. A., 2012). Two theories of developmental psychology that I will be discussing will be the theory of moral development by Lawrence Kohlberg, and Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development.
Behaviorism must be seen as a methodological proposal of explaining the behavior of organisms from the lowest to the highest. Explaining human and nonhuman behavior by reference to scientific laws and the theories expressed of physical states, events, and entities. Because modern psychology emerged roughly in the mid-19th century, information of behaviorism was gathered in its early stages by introspection (looking at your own inner states of being; your own desires, feelings, and intentions) then linking them to the outside observable state.
Human development has been a subject of interest since ancient Greece and Rome. Different approaches derive from two basic directions: the nativists` and empiricists` ones. The latter method is to regard human development as a gradual change which has been influenced by the individual`s experience .On the other hand, the former approach has found its roots in the biological structure of the human organism which considers our development as a series of stages. However, referring to human development only as continuous or gradual would produce inconsistent and insufficient understanding of the developmental process .As a result, combining ideas of both viewpoints(continuity and phases) will provide a more explicit of understanding of the developmental processes and their final aim which is to create individual`s integrity within the social norms.
