According to a particularist, there is something defective with the whole process of coming up with a general standard of action of current problems. The acknowledgment of a judgment of what you should do, and then doing whatever the theory says depends on the involvement of a person and the situation. The theory that I can best relate to would be particularism due to the fact I don’t believe in following just one specific rule, being having to pick right from wrong. Particularism comes from the category of teleology, which are methods that are out to find the meaning or purpose of our lives, and judge our success or failure based on how well we have pursued that purpose. A person who is a particularist as myself, rejects all ethical theories …show more content…
Henry Ford II, CEO of the Ford Corporation, was creating a competitive automobile to rival the foreign vehicles, he labeled the project a high priority. To launch the design and manufacturing of this automobile, Mr. Ford turned to his company president, Lido Anthony Iacocca aka “Lee: the father of the mustang”. The Fords Engineers staff, pressured by the upper management were rushed into completing the project at a unheard speed. The average time scale, to designed and produce a car, would take between 40 to 45 months. The Ford Corporation achieved it in 25. After performing rear collation test, the Fords Engineers discovered that in nearly all rear collision above 20 MPH would indicate that the gas tank would get puncture with the rear end differential placement bolts. This would allow for fuel to leak out and potentially burst into flames. The passengers will typically die in the flames due to the jamming of the doors, not letting the persons escape from the car. Iacocca had three possible courses of action he could of taken: 1.release the pinto 2.pay the 11$ to fix the car issue 3. Wait till the car was well design so their would be the least flaws. If I were the one to decide what would of happened using the particularism approach: I would have to see that if I release the pinto there would be deaths involved due to the fact that the car was explosive, if I fix the car paying only 11$ I would have got more profits due to the fact that

During the 1960's the demand for sub-compact cars was rising on the market. Ford Motor Company, in competition with the foreign market, decided to introduce the Ford Pinto. The Ford Pinto was going to be the new wave for the Ford Company, but it was soon discovered that numerous problems existed. For example, the time that it took to manufacture an automobile was down from three and a half years to just over two years. Before production, however, the engineers at Ford discovered a major flaw in the cars design. In nearly all rear-end crash test collisions the Pinto's fuel system would rupture extremely easily (The Ford Pinto, n.d.). Other problems that were discovered compounded the problem that caused the fires. These included the gas tank being about six inches from the flimsy bumpers, the backend not containing rear sub frame members, and doors tending to jam shut in an accident. The fuel filler tube was prone to separate and create spillage (Alfred, n.d.).
...th a growing proportion of elderly people. Global market dynamics and innovations in big data and social networking are transforming the business strategies of companies everywhere—and forcing them to rethink fundamental rules of engagement. For better or worse, the future entrepreneurs will have to surface as one the most disruptive forces. As big data pushes for alternative ways of working – proactive solutions that drive information must quickly figure out which new policies and tools can be utilized most effectively. This grants enormous opportunities for key technological breakthroughs that will be needed for the next generation of transport.
John Deere has recently been challenged by the Justice Department from filing a lawsuit challenging Deere & Co.’s planned acquisition of a high- tech farming equipment line from Monsanto Co., saying the deal would suppress competition for technology that allows farmers to plant crops at higher speeds. The misguided statement of U.S allegation as the news affected Deere to lose their share value and wrongly accused Deere will dominate the market. There is a broad view to define it, it shows John Deere is buliding “the proposed acquisition benefits farmers by accelerating the development and delivery of new precision equipment solutions that help farmers increase yield and productivity,” (Kendall & Bunge, 2016). Corporate Social Responsibility is an important strategic method to bring benefits in terms of customer relationships and human resource management. It also encourages firm be proactive in social and environmental responsibility to gain the consumer confidence and the trust in business. Therefore, Analysis of a few key points of John Deere’s charitable giving, technological developments, environmental efforts, and customer oriented approach to the firm will explain clearly that John Deere is a
4) Viral-Quotient per Content (Any Media) - Most popular YouTube video was viewed 200,000 times. On an average, a video was viewed 1600 times. This builds upon the idea of Customer engagement, and Content distribution in the social space, that relates heavily to the very purpose of such a campaign. Also, this entire communication was user-generated, so the message didn’t look, at least to say, to be coming out in the form of ‘Company Promotion’.
It was their competitive drive that led them to the decision of compressing their timetable for the Pinto from three-and-a-half years to just only two. This meant that any changes that were to be made were done in the process of building this car. However, they bumped into a major setback since their new car could not pass the proposed standard set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This standard called for automobiles to withstand 20-mph collisions from the rear without sustaining any fuel loss. This setback forced Ford to make an ethical decision: They could meet the production timetable by neglecting consumer safety and rolling out the existing design for the Pinto; or they could delay productions in order to implement a safer gas tank but would have to be forced fork over a little bit more money per vehicle and to concede to foreign
Early 20th century, the automobile was vastly used by the rich, due to its high pricing and complicated machinery models. Most models required a chauffeur acquainted with the individual model’s mechanics. This sole reason drove Henry Ford’s determination to build a simple, yet reliable and affordable car. In the article “Henry Ford - An Impact Felt”
Evaluating the Ford Pinto Case by taking an ethical approach, makes judging the decisions made on a cost-benefit analysis difficult. Cost-benefit analysis puts a price on human life and compares it to the cost of a something else. To judge this case, a look at separate consequences must be made, weighing the good and bad results of an action on everyone affected by it (DeGeorge, 2010, p. 44). Ford’s production of the Pinto was not done in an illegal manner. However, Ford ignored morally relevant events that ultimately led to the Pinto’s controversial safety record.
The automobile went from being a toy for society’s elite to being an essential item within the economic reach of nearly every American, all thanks to the hard work and ingenuity of Henry Ford. His dedication to quality and attention to detail earned him not only dozens of racing titles, but also the reputation of a respectable businessman. Ford understood his market so well that he knew what the people wanted before they could even ask for it, always ahead of the curve. Ford was a pioneer of American commercialism, and so his production methods were centred around efficiency and mass production, thus allowing him to increase productivity and decrees cost to meet the demand of the masses. Lastly, consideration of the working class and philosophy of raising the wages instead of raising the price point and focusing only on profit. There are a great many lessons to be learned from distinguished businessmen in history, and Henry Ford is no
There was strong competition for Ford in the American small-car market from Volkswagen and several Japanese companies in the 1960's. In order for Ford to stay competitive and fight off competition, they rushed its newest car the Ford Pinto into production in much less time than is usually required to develop a car. The regular time to produce an automobile was 43 months; Ford took only 38 months. Before production, the engineers at Ford discovered a major flaw in the cars' design. In nearly all rear-end crash test collisions the Pinto's fuel system would rupture extremely easily. Safety was not a major concern to Ford at the time of the development of the Pinto. Lee Iacocca, who was in charge of the development of the Pinto, had specifications for the design of the car that were uncompromising. These specifications were that "the Pinto was not to weigh an ounce over 2,000 pounds and not cost a cent over $2,000." (1) Any modifications even if they did provide extra safety for consumers that brought the car closer to the Iacocca's limits were rejected.
On August 10, 1978, three teenage girls died in a fiery vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 33 in Elkhart County, Indiana. The two sisters and cousin were headed to practice for their church’s volleyball team. They had just refueled their 1973 Ford Pinto and were attempting to pull over and check the gas cap. The vehicle behind them was a van weighing over 400 pounds that was modified with a rigid plank for a front bumper. The van’s driver, Robert Duggar, was distracted and hit the Pinto at about 50 MPH. Duggar said in testimony, “Before I could think, the car was on fire…I wanted to help but everything was burning. I just fell to my knees.” (People) Two of the girls died immediately from the fire; and the other died from her burns eight hours later.
Honda has established a program for its suppliers to strive for improvements in order to meet Honda’s requirements. The goals of the BP program are to improve the relationship between Honda and their suppliers, reduce manufacturing costs, and eliminate product defects. They accomplish these goals by focusing on 5 key areas: Best Position, Best Productivity, Best Product, Best Price, and Best Partners (Bounds and Arnold).
In this case study I will be discussing advantages and disadvantages of electric cars. Electric cars are cars that are powered by electricity. Electric vehicles are an important part of cutting emissions and reducing global warming. The battery of an electric car stores electrical energy. The electric motor is coupled to the wheels through gears; it converts 59-60% of electrical energy into the wheels. The battery runs the motor which allows the car to move. Electric cars are necessary as they will save money, because electricity is cheaper than gas. Also electric vehicles will help reduce global warming and pollution. However, some people say that electric cars still have environmental costs. The electricity used to recharge EV batteries has to come from somewhere in the world, and now, most electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels. Although electric vehicles are classified as green cars, purists will not appreciate the toxicity of the batteries.
The first phase is essentially the foundation of a great car wash. The first step is usually to remove any debris, dirt, or bugs from the car to begin the detailing process. When washing your vehicle its important to get all areas wet and ready for the next step. Therefore, you wash your vehicle using the two-bucket method to avoid scratching your paint. One bucket will contain pure water for cleanse, and the other bucket will have water mixed with wash solution from any local auto store; I personally use armor all car wash. This phase should take a solid five to ten minutes based off how dirty is your vehicle.
By the reading of it, Volkswagen management expressed what seemed like genuine shock when the EPA and California’s Air Resources Board revealed their joint findings regarding the automaker’s manipulation of US emissions testing for diesel cars outfitted with a particular 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine.
