"The American Dream” can be considered to mean the American way of life but it isn’t easy to obtain. The American Dream always has something to do with a person’s individualism, which is the habit of being independent and self-reliant. To obtain the “American Dream" all Americans have to work hard and together. "The American Dream" is supposed to be for Americans, regardless of social groups. So many people have stopped putting their trust into “the American Dream” because they work so hard and did not reach what they had worked so hard for. To most Americans “the American Dream”, is to become wealthy and the ability to achieve everything if one works hard enough for it. For others it is not just about materialism. For them it is the dream of living a simple, happy life and being considered equal. "The American Dream" also is about America being the land of the free and the country of unlimited opportunities. The American Dream is no longer about following opportunity it is about learning how to earn the right to both see it and obtain it. Some did. But many more had short runs and were quickly forgotten.” This showed that if one does not achieve or conquer the American Dream then they will not be noticed or remembered. Only ones that achieves the American Dream is considered to be successful and they are the ones that get noticed. The ones who actually work hard but don’t get noticed because they don’t have the resources to conquer the dream. This story ties to “The Great Divide” because it’s about a couple that was trying to make a life out West but was struggling because it was during the time of the Great Depression. But even though the couples struggled and they still worked hard. They just weren’t conquering the dream they wanted, but they still continued to work
