Texas Instruments in South Korea
Understanding a target market’s needs and desires can assist companies with tailoring their offerings in the name of profit. Texas Instruments (TI) had been business since 1930. During this time they have reinvented their offerings to remain a viable business entity throughout the decades. Their ability to stay ahead of the change curve has translated into a current market cap value of approximately $47 billion ("Yahoo finance," 2014). Whether it is calculators, semiconductors, software or education materials TI has been able to continually transformed itself using a strategy predicated on “risk taking and innovation” ("Texas instruments," 2014).
It is this culture of risk taking that has TI attempting to partner with South Korea as a first mover in the digitization of learning for children K – 12. This digitization initiative is targeted for completion by 2015 (Peng, 2014). Social status surrounding a person’s education is critical within the South Korean culture ("Asia society," 2014). This emphasis on education highlights South Korea’s transformation over the last half century from a government of dictatorship into a democratic society that is enthusiastic about progress ("South korea’s education," 2013). This ability to transform has allowed South Korea to embrace times of change facilitating adoption of new methods in order to improve one’s learning experience.
TI recognizes the opportunity to invest in South Korea’s educational structure. This investment will facilitate adoption of their systems. The world is experiencing a communications revolution. The Internet, e-Commerce and other developments (including the convergence of communication technologies) are profoundly reshaping economic and social life. Samsung’s cost advantage is clearly visible from the comparison of costs (and their elements) that were borne by the company and its competitors in 2003 (Tab. 3): Samsung’s overall cost was 24 per cent lower than the weighted average cost of the other four producers; two most significant elements of the cost structure, i.e. raw materials and labour, were 36 and 27 per cent lower respectively. When expressed by means of a relation of average selling price to costs (“productivity” of cost elements), the differences are even more visible (comp. Tab. 4 ): overall superiority of Samsung over its competitors exceeded 51 per cent!
With a near total saturation of the consumer electronics market, companies need to look beyond their boundaries and add value to their offerings, and sometimes it means total reinvention of the company.
The article “A study of the tablet computer’s application in K-12 school in China.” They explained the tablet computers access to K-12 education in China and other developing areas. Taotao Long is a doctoral student in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling at The University of Tennessee. She has a master degree in Instructional Technology in College of Educational Technology. Wenxin Liang is a Distance Education specialist in the Center for Distance Education. She is working on the Distance Education and Training for K-12 teachers. Shengquan Yu is a professor of Educational Technology, and Dean of the College of Educational Technology. Meanwhile, his research areas are design and sharing of Ubiquitous Learning resources, integrating Informational Technology into curriculum, educational information ecology, Educational Technology standards, knowledge media, etc.
In the future our firm could offer, the facility to make computers to consumers tastes, needs and budget. This is what the Gate Way Computer Company, which was very successful.
South Korea’s scarcity of natural resources has motivated it to look at its human capital as its biggest endowment, leading it to invest heavily in education, science and technology to create a knowledge-based economy. In doing so, it has achieved a literacy rate close to 98%, with 65% of the population under 35 having completed a university education, the highest among OECD countries.
The XYZ Corporation was established in 2004 and their main office is located in Vancouver, BC. The company’s main objective is to create new innovating technology for media devices, computers, and digital music players. They deal with the design, manufacturing and marketing of the products. XYZ Corporation has been providing Canadians with groundbreaking technology throughout the years and continues to create new technology to provide others with top-level technology. Although, recently their success rate has appeared to drop rapidly due to a number of factors that will be explored throughout this case study. Their main objective is to target the problems so that they can work towards having the issues resolved as quickly as possible. If they do not take any course of action, the state of the company may be in extreme danger. This case study is designed to explore the areas of the company and discover the problems blocking the XYZ Corporation from success.
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
This case traces the strategic decisions of Intel Corporation which defined its evolution from being a start-up developer of semiconductor memory chips in 1968 to being the industry leader of microprocessors in 1997 when it ranked amongst the top five American companies and had stock market valuation of USD 113 billion.
The Clipboard Tablet Company currently offers three products that appeal to a different type of customer and fits their individual needs. For the first SLP, the simulation was run through from 2012 to 2015 using default values to assess what using a status quo decision (or lack thereof) model would do for the organization. The X5 tablet serves the entry-level consumer, who isn’t looking at spending a lot of money on a tablet computer. The X6 version is a higher quality model that caters to those who are primarily focused on performance and capability. Lastly, the X7 Version balances a capable tablet but at a price that is easier on the consumers’ wallet. When Mr. Schmoe took over in 2012, the Clipboard Tablet Company balanced research amongst all the different versions of the tablets, and kept their prices stable. No product was singled out for more development, and the price points were kept the same. What was missing from Mr. Schmoe’s plan was a business strategy that focuses on market segmentation, with an eye on product life cycle and profitability.
During 1998-2003, SEC invested $19 billion into chip factories and $17 billion into manufacturing facilities for TFT-LCDs, which would be a major component for flat screen TVs and computer screens. Even though SEC was focused in the manufacturing process, it didn’t make SEC a rigid company.
Originated as low-cost manufacturer of black and white televisions in the year 1969, super sized with a semiconductor segment in 1970s, Samsung delivered massive volume of low-cost consumer electronics to domestic and OEM products to both domestic and global markets until 1993. Due to this fact, company didn’t develop global brand awareness until then. In the global arena, Samsung’s brand message was fragmented and its logo presentations were inconsistent.
Throughout history we have many advancements. Technology has been one of the biggest. The top five advancements that have changed the face of education are Social Media, Online Classrooms, Tablets, Smartphones, and Free Online Resources. We can almost guarantee that in the future another advancement will be released that can help further our education or our children's education. This paper is going to introduce and further explore how digital learning will change education in the future. Listed below will be a few key subjects that will be discussed and further researched in the paper.
Computers have always been useful, but not until recently have computers become useful for children who are twelve and under. Of course these children enjoy playing games and talking to there friends on the computer but due to new innovations coming out everyday children can now do a lot more then just play and socialize. Computers have brought school to the home. When children come home from school it used to mean school was over but today if you have access to the internet school is know longer over but just beginning on the internet. The internet has special educational sites that children can visit and learn from. Besides that children actually can have contact with there personal teacher from school. A new invention called the “Mobile Author can be used by human instructors either from a computer or a mobile phone to create their own Intelligent Tutoring Systems and to distribute them to their students. Students can also use any computer or mobile phone to have access to theory and tests.” (Source 2, Journal) Homework, notes, review assignments can now be given over the internet by the child’s teacher from there school. “Instructors can monitor their students; progress and communicate with their students during the course.” (Source 2, Journal) Children can learn new information on the internet and they are able to review and get extra help on things they don’t understand. If a child realizes that they do not understand something when they get home, they know longer have to wait to go in to school for extra help, but they now can communicate with there teacher online or they can go to an internet tutoring system which will give them just as much help as being in a regular classroom.
