I have heard that many of you have been focused on the fleshy temptations of pleasing man in your dress, your wealth, your speech, and your worldly possessions. You have created yourself to be perfect in the eyes of man with neither consideration nor fear of the judgement of the Most High God. You fear those that cannot “kill the soul (King James Bible, Mathew 10.28)” rather than the Him who can send “both your body and soul into eternal damnation (Mathew 10.28).” You filled your table with rich foods rather than eating bread and water and using the rest of your income to feed the starving orphans and widows. You have indulged in alcohol instead of giving water to the thirsty. You have added furnishings to your spare rooms, but filled those rooms with guests and not those who are in need of a home. You have clothed your children and wives in silk and furs rather than clothing the naked. You tremble in fear of catching typhus rather than caring for the sick. You scorn the prisoners rather than offering them some consolation. I tell you the truth my brothers and sisters, many of you are trying to enter into the pearly gates of heaven through the wide road and will be cast out by the Lord saying, “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not (Mathew 25.42-43).” You are white washed tombs; immaculate on the outside, reeking of sulfur on the inside. You live your lives unware that at any moment, the Mighty God may choose to no longer allow you to partake in the wickedness of the world’s pleasure...

...addition to this, one must be sure to say their prayers night and morning as well as to read and memorize the Bible. Through this I have had much success in teaching the pupils of Lowood to stay away from temptations of hell through the consistency of the Christian walk and so too, I believe, will help you. For it is said “the wages of sin is death (Romans 6.23)” and he who “soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting (Galatians 6.8).” If you are willing to follow the Good Lord’s example, surely you shall not be tempted to take the wide gate and thus be told by the Lord “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire (Mathew 25.42).” Rather, He shall open his arms to warm embrace and with grand flourish He shall exclaim, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant (Mathew 25.21).”

Temptations Of Odysseus Essay

- Temptations of Odysseus Odysseus: a hero in every way. He is a real man, skilled in the sports, handy with a sword and spear, and a master of war strategy. Most of the challenges and adventures in his return voyage from Troy show us this even if we had no idea of his great heroic stature and accomplishments in the Trojan war. I found in my reading of the Odyssey that most of the trials the gods place upon him are readily faced with heroic means. These challenges are not necessarily welcomed by Odysseus but accepted as part of his role....   [tags: essays research papers]
