Switched at Birth On June 6, 2011, ABC Family premiered the television series Switched at Birth. It is a family drama that is created by Lizzy Weiss. The show airs at 9:00 p.m. on Monday nights and set in the Kansas City Metropolitan area and it 's about two teenagers who were switched at birth and grew up in very different lives. The television show is full of drama, suspense and yet humor and warmth. The characters portrayed in the show are very easy to connect to and create a bond between the viewer and the character. The show is also the first mainstream television series to have multiple deaf and hard-of -hearing series. Bay was in in Biology class when she discovers, through a test being conducted in class that she has a rare AB blood type. She asked her parents to take a genetic test at a lab to confirm. The results show that she is not their biological daughter. They have lived different lives; Bay and Daphane are faced with the extremely difficult challenge of realizing who they truly are growing up not looking like their parents. Bay 's parents John and Kathryn Kennish contact the hospital and find out that Regina Vasquez raised their biological daughter Daphane and she is deaf. For example, the Kennishes ' want to have Daphane switch schools from her All-Deaf High School to where Bay and her brother Toby 's private school. Regina opposes about the idea and says " Daphane likes being deaf and doesn 't need to be fixed, she is also opposed to her changing schools.
