Recommended: Television effects on family relationships

How the media has portrayed families is important because television is a source for learning about family. From television, we learn what families look like, what an ideal family is, how couples are supposed to act together, how parents are expected to treat their children, and how families deal with issues amongst each other. A show that I feel looks at family and marriage in many ways is the bachelor/bachelorette. This is a show where men and women go on public television to find their soulmate. I picked this show because I have been watching this show since it began in the early 2000’s and I can relate it to this topic and several different ways.
In the show, they have hometown dates, which is when the final four constants bring the other guy/girl to their family to meet them and show them what their family life is like and if it is the right fit for the other person to become part of their family if they ever get engaged to that …show more content…

Amanda claims to be in love with Josh and they happen to get married. Amanda has two kids of her own to a previous relationship while Josh is a younger guy just looking for someone to love. Adapting to others lives is difficult sometimes and you can see this from watching the show. You see Amanda’s family blessing the lord at every meal, praying together before they go to bed and having a close relationship with each other. While on the other hand you see Josh’s, family being the typical working class family. Parents are always working and the family doesn’t spend a lot of time together. So, with both Amanda and Josh wanting to be together they must make their marriage work but also do it in way that they both grew up doing, which can be a struggle. However, in our 2003 world, families exist in a lot of non-traditional ways.
