Teens and Birth Control Eric Scheidler’s article “Teens Should Not Have Access to IUDs” was full of information opposing the idea of teens and birth control. This article was published in the year 2016, and lists several points as to why teens should not have access to birth control. If you do some research on Eric Scheidler, you’ll find that he is a pro-life activist. Not only a pro-life activist, but he is also the communications director for Pro-Life Action League. Eric Scheidler is the child of Ann Scheidler and Joe Scheidler. Scheidler also has six daughters of his own, which he proudly announces in his article. Scheilder is fighting a fight that is being fought nationwide, but defiantly in the United States. Scheidler is entitled to his own opinions for sure, but a man is standing against something that has no effect on his body? It may have an impact on his children’s bodies, but not his own. He does not make one significant argument against how a teen girl may be in harm’s way or any medical reasoning as to why teens should not be allowed access to birth control. He makes an argument that IUD’s could cause early abortion, yet that is standing on his own ethics, that abortion is wrong. Scheidler then proceeds to make a scenario out of girls using birth control. Scheidler actually compares birth control to boys using steroids before athletic events. Yes, you read that correctly. Scheidler states, “parents and coaches are trying to discourage the boys on the football team from using steroids to improve athletic performance, the AAP is encouraging the girls on the cheerleading squad—or the volleyball team—to have steroid-releasing devices implanted in their bodies”.
