Teen Pregnancy In the Untied States three in ten teenage girls will have at least one pregnancy by the age of twenty, that is approximately seven-hundred forty-five thousand teen pregnancies each year. (The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy) Teen Pregnancy is a serious epidemic this nation is faced with. Pressures from peers and media for a teen to have sex and the misuse or failure of contraceptives are two main causes of pregnancy among teenagers. Theses Pregnancies have many effects on the teen and infant such as emotional issues, education deficiency, and health risk for the infant. An unplanned pregnancy can cause conflict between family members, which can lead to anger and stress to the young teen. Pregnancy can also lead to depression and fear for the teen due to the tough decisions they will be faced with; These decisions include if there are going to keep there baby, have a abortion, or give the baby up for adoption each of these choices can have different emotional effects for the mother and father of the baby to be. The teenage mother can also be faced with insecurities about taking care of the baby and her ability to be the parent she wants for her child. One way we can do this is to increase sexual education in schools. Laws about sexual education in schools should be less strict, because it is better for our youth to learn about sex in school rather then from outside sources. Sexual education classes should include teaching about the complexity of having a child. Also, schools should tech students about abstinence and ways to avoid peer pressures. In addition, as a parent don’t be afraid to talk to your children about sex. Although it may be an uncomfortable subject, at least you will know the information that your child is receiving and will let your child know that you are interested in what they are doing, which may bring you
