Introduction Is technology taking over? Technology is used almost every minute of everyday throughout the world. Technology is a very resourceful thing. Humans use technology from making toast, to forecasting the weather, to even creating the parts to an airplane that have to be within a one hundred thousandths of an inch. But technology is expanding so rapidly that people think it may be taking over. Throughout the expansion of technology, it has taken over people’s families, our society, and even some jobs.

Social media is a very popular form of technology in today’s day and age. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and countless other social networking sites are something that people cannot seem to live without. But it does not help the cause that people are always on the sites when they are at our fingertips. All the time on Facebook, someone is posting a status about them being upset, or having something wrong with them. It seems as though the Internet and social networking especially have pulled the empathy and caring right out of some people, if not everyone. People want others to see that they are successful and when they aren’t, so they can sympathy or praise. While the technology that our world has today is amazing and helps us through our everyday lives, it is hard to put it down. A sad part is, bullying has even come down to being done in the cyber world. Technology is taking over society so badly that it is difficult to walk anywhere without seeing most people glued to their cell phones or talking about what they posted that morning, or a picture they saw online. It is like there cannot be a world without social networking or technology. It just seems like a lot of situations now are impersonal. Instead of talking to someone face-to-face and verbally sharing in someone’s emotion, people read about them. To begin with, users should set restrictions. Another tip people should preform is designating an “unplug” day. That means, the person or family pick one day that they are not allowed to use technology. That includes their phones, tablets, computers, and some people even include their T.V. An additional suggestion to keep technology from taking over is establishing restrictions. The restrictions could include not responding to text or email for a set amount of time, to even establishing time limits for how long you are on your device. The last tip is too keeping devices out of the bedroom. Not only does having a device in a bedroom keep the user up, but it can keep other up that are trying to sleep.
