Teens today spend a total of 7 ½ hours a day on their phones and social networking, etc., according to a study that was conducted in 2010 by the Kaiser Family Foundation (Masuma Ahuja). In this day and age technology is everywhere and in some ways it’s good, but in other cases it could be bad because people can do negative things online and have consequences because with the technology that we have nowadays it keeps everything and if you post something on the internet it would be there forever. Technology can be good and bad, but the way you choose to use it would define you and you can be contributing positive or negative experiences to your community. People get bullied a lot online because sometimes people take nudes and send them to boyfriends/ girlfriends and if they have a bad breakup they want to get their revenge and they post these pictures so the whole world can see, and when classmates get wind of it they take it upon themselves to ridicule them (Suicide Prevention). When that happens people think that they can escape the ridicule, but people from all over the world can humiliate them online. For example, I saw this movie on Lifetime and she was under pressure to lose her virginity to her boyfriend and she was until she second guessed herself, so she felt bad that she goes all the way so she decided to take some nude pictures and she sent them to her boyfriend (Lifetime). By the next morning all her classmates had seen her pictures and on her locker it had mean words in it and it was covered in condoms, and people from other districts had seen the pictures (Lifetime). She documented in a video on how she was being called a whore and how everybody in her school thought that she was easy, she would then go on into saying that her pictures had gone online and how strangers were saying mean thoughts so she decided she wanted to kill herself (Lifetime). The majority of the movies in Lifetime is based on true stories, and at the end of the movie it said that a total of 4,600 teens in America kill themselves because of the mean comments they …show more content…

Back in the days when people didn’t have portable telephones or any telephones at all they would talk face-to-face, because that is how we would spend time together or communicate or that’s the only way we could communicate. But now I’m starting to see that even though our friends are in the same room they are texting each other than having some kind of interaction or they’re just text each other in their own homes because they think it’s easier to text than see each other in the eyes (Ahuja & RooGirl). And when that happens when we have to go for a job or star being in the real world they wouldn’t know how to function because they don’t have any experience whatsoever on dealing and interacting with human
