Technology Integrated into Agroforestry Systems Provides Multiple Benefits for Rural Counties
Introduction
Mankind survival has been supported by various revolutions (agricultural, industrial etc.) for continuous growth and expansion on Earth. Our natural resources are being exhausted from population increase. Food availability is a necessity that will become harder to obtain. The future will rely on applying technology to support population increase. Utilizing new developing technologies into agroforestry systems will fundamentally improve food production, generate higher revenue and will promote sustainability for long-term human existence. This could be essential for developing rural counties where livelihood is dependent on agroforestry systems. Incorporating technology into agroforestry systems is effective with numerous benefits. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the potential for benefits in agroforestry systems with assistance of 4 different technology applications in rural counties.
Most agroforestry systems intentions are for increase productivity and efficiency from their outputs that will provide some level of economic stability and livelihood. Four different types of agroforestry technologies that would aid in these practices include fertilizer tree systems, rotational woodlots, fodder banks, and indigenous fruit trees. Dr. Sharrow, professor at Oregon State University, explains his first law of agroforestry as “A good system is more than the sum of its parts” and implementing these technologies demonstrates this concept (2008 P. 2).

Agriculture is the biggest industry in the world and home to millions of job opportunities with all jobs leading us to one purpose. Making the world a better place. Over the years agriculture has become bigger, better, and more efficient. With the progression of agriculture technology the agriculture industry has became more improved. Agriculture technology has shaped the face of our country. From the cotton gin to drones agriculture has improved. In this research paper we will take a look at the progression of agriculture technology through the years, and how the progression of agriculture technology has improved American farming has shaped the United States of America.
Congo, Zimbabwe, and Liberia are some of the most impoverished nations in the world and require the assistance of organizations such as UNICEF or AARP in order to receive food in order to survive. Locavores may suggest promoting the creation of local farms to provide food that is nearby, cost efficient, and organic. An argument one might hear may be how, the farther away your food is grown, the longer of time it will take to reach you, and the more likely you are to go hungry. While it is true that moving food from one place to another would take a longer period of time, it is important to realize the risk associated with locally grown organic foods. If an entire population is heavily reliant on local farmers, it begs the question. What would happen if there's a drought in the highly impoverished area? What if there is a flood, a disease ravages the plants, insects decimate the plant population, thieves steal from the field, not to mention the now growing population, the farmers would be forced to expand their land and maintain it. Smaller farmers are limited also by the soil. They cannot continuously plant the same type of crop because some crops take much of the nutrients out of the soil making it less fertile and forcing the farmers to wait rotate their crops on different fields in order to maintain a constant output of goods. The last step is farmers need the right incentives. Farmers want to know about the good that they are doing. Farmer’s want to know how they are saving the environment, and how they are producing more food, and feeding more people than they were before.
Overall Central Africa’s dependence on agriculture could improve the wellbeing of the people but a long history of corruption, violence, and prevalent transportation issues have hindered an improvement in the economy resulting in poverty among the region. Poverty will not subside unless these issues are dealt with and improved.

What is agroforestry? Many people do not know what exactly agroforestry is. The answer is simple. Agroforestry is the combination of trees, crops, and/or livestock into a system which focus on the interactions between the components rather than the components themselves (Sharrow 1997). It is mostly practiced in developing countries where its ability to be used to produce several different outputs is critical to the farmers. Agroforestry is not practiced on the same scale that monoculture agriculture is practiced in the United States. It has several different systems that incorporate the different components in different ways. There are several different applications of agroforestry in the United States, however, silvopastoral agroforestry in the United States is the focus of this paper. Silvopastoral systems combine trees with animal agriculture for several different outputs (Sharrow 2008). It can be used to produce timber outputs such as lumber, pulp, or biomass. It also allows for livestock agriculture outputs to be generated as well. Silvopastoral agroforestry provides many benefits that single resource management cannot provide such as more efficient nutrient use, increased revenue flow, increased diversity, increased resilience, increased livestock productivity, increased tree productivity, increased sustainability and environmental benefits (Cubbage, Balmelli, Bussoni et al. 2012). This paper discusses the benefits that can be provided by practicing Silvopastoral agroforestry in the agroforestry, and the incentives provided by application of Silvopastoral systems in the United States; particularly the benefits associated with livestock productivity and timber production.
El Salvador is the smallest but the most densely populated country in Mesoamerica. It has a tropical climate broken into a rainy season (May – October) and a dry season (November – April). The rainy season is characterized by severe storms, hurricanes and rain events, the dry season sees long periods of severe drought and low rainfall (Urrea, 2013). Smallholder farmers of El Salvador, who are suffering poverty, mostly located in the mountainous regions of the country, which locate in high elevation with a large amount of rainfall. Agriculture holds a significant role in underdeveloped countries. It is often the backbone of their economic and social well-being. It acts as the main source of employment and income, 70% of a country's population rely on framing as a mean of living (CITE HERE). Because most underdeveloped countries have low rates of educational attainment, farming is a popular source of employment. It requires little to no education.
