What is the importance of technology in education
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
Technology is an important part of life and therefore it is an important part of
schooling. The National Council for teachers of mathematics states, ?Calculators and
computers are reshaping the mathematical landscape, and school mathematics should
reflect those changes.? When students go home, they play video or computer games; yet,
when they come to school we expect them to want to work in books and complete
worksheets. These tasks are quite boring compared to the exciting games they have
waiting on them at home. If teachers could only allow students to use their technology,
knowledge at school as well as at home then the teachers would find more students
excelling in mathematics. Through the creation of such amazing software such as
Geometer?s Sketchpad and Geometric Golfer, students can enjoy learning mathematics
and some students may even find mathematics fun.
Without technology, we would not have computers, internet or calculators.
These items of technology have changed our life in a positive way. Using computer
programs, we can easily show students mathematics. Showing students? mathematics is
more effective than simply telling students what mathematics is. These programs have
evolved through time so that even young children can use them effectively. By allowing
students to work on computers, they are able to discover mathematics on their own with
little guidance from a teacher or peer. Since technology is such an important part of
everyday life, it is important to teach all students about technology. We must realize that
some students do not have computers and video game systems at home. These students
also benefit from using technology in the classroom because without it in the classroom
they would be not being exposed to the technology. If the student does not know about at
least basic technology then they will reduce their chances of life success because almost
every business uses some form of technology. By allowing these students to use
technology they are being exposed to such great technology that they would not be
exposed to it otherwise.
The first tool and the most popular technological tool is the graphing calculator.
Many students own this tool. In addition, a calculator can be quite handy. Calculators
reduce the simple addition or multiplication errors that students make. It also reduces the
amount of time that it takes a teacher to teach a lesson successfully. Students can use the
graphing abilities of the calculator to help their grasp concepts such as graphing and they
can use the calculator to check their work such as derivatives. In addition, calculators
have the capability of uploading programs from the internet that allow the calculator to
• Is there a specific area of concern? (Day to day instruction, during lab times, working in groups, transitioning from subject to subject, implementation of technology, etc.)
If a student can do their work as fast as a computer, then they don’t need the computer, it is better for them to work it out by themselves.
Technology is also used as a tool in the method of teaching and learning for faster and easier education. It is now an academic necessity in this global world and every student needs a computer to use online sources and textbooks, search and write the projects and do the online homework.... ... middle of paper ... ...
For instance, allowing students the opportunity to use high tech software as they learn can potentially prepare them in future job opportunities. Students at the High Tech High School in San Diego are taught using the same computer programs one might find in a future job, thus preparing them for their future career (Schorr, Jonathan, and Deborah). Students who have used and are accustomed to using similar software as they might find in a workplace have a greater chance of being hired by the corporation and having overall success. Not only can this be a successful way of instruction, but it can also effectively inform students of different software. Similarly, students who learn the needed technology skills in high school are more likely to find success in a high-tech working career (Coleman). By giving students the opportunity to learn and become accustomed to various technology while still in school, it increases their chance of success with high-tech devices in their future careers. Using technology in school can therefore positively impact the students. Also, technology can engage students in learning. Empire High School, for example, had replaced all their textbooks with iBooks and Apple laptops in order to increase student engagement. Many teachers did in fact believe that the students felt more strongly about their school work after the experiment (Rotstein). Incorporating technology into curriculum can increase students’ willingness to learn. Because the majority of students enjoy using technology, adding it to school would be effective in increasing their will to learn. Some schools believe that technology can become a distraction, however. A student at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia commented, "’The teachers think their students are engrossed in class research when they 're actually playing video games and surfing the Net, (Welsh).’" The use of technology
Technology is becoming more and more dominant in our society.Everyday upgrades are being made and new innovations are being discovered. Technology is all around us whether we want it to be or not: it is the vehicles we drive, it can be found in our homes, and can even be found in the grocery store.Every place we look there is some type of technology.I believe technology has had a major impact on our school systems and is still impacting it today. There are those who do not agree, though, that technology has impacted our schools.Eric Gormly writes, “In fact, many theorists point out the overall impact of technology on education has been quite small, manifesting little discernible change in the classroom.” [1]Yes, there are some schools that are not as advanced as others, but many of them do have a significant amount of technology in them.I find it fascinating that so much technology has been incorporated into our classrooms, but I believe that, even with all of the positive aspects that are associated with technology, there are some negative and even dangerous aspects that should be taken into account.I will be sharing some of the equipment that has been used in the schools, how both the students and the teachers use the equipment, and also the positive and negative effects that technology has had on our schools.
Although these tasks are important, they only represent a small part of what technology can do for an educational institution. Technology must go beyond just keeping attendance, it must focus on keeping students interested and productive. " Curriculum improvement is the best strategy to prevent dropouts; technology is especially useful in this regard" (Kinnaman 78).
Long ago, people were simple and didn’t have many technologies. They used to take so much time in planning their projects, researching, and saving and recording their studying. Look around, this world changed a lot. There are cars, airplanes, computers, and many other technologies. Technology can be found everywhere, and we use depend on it a lot. One of the most important technologies is computers and laptops. Many people use them today in their daily lives and it eases many things for them.
Students do things like write papers, access test and quizzes, and even visit their teacher’s web page where they find information needed for the course. This may seem easy to students who have always had internet in their home with a computer they can work on, but what about the students who have no idea what the internet is, or don’t own a computer or device they can to practice on. This is one of the key reason digital literacy is important. Students no matter the age or background should feel comfortable using the internet at school. They should always feel caught up in classes because if they don’t know how to it will be taught to them. Schools should make sure students are up to speed and no child is left
As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past. Looking back over the last 20 years, I never would have imagined that computers would come this far and impact our lives so much. Just imagine where they will be 20 years from now.
The introduction of technology into education has revolutionized the teaching quality and learning outcome in the last ten years. The integration of technology into lectures by teachers in classroom has become so natural that both teachers and learners consider computers and their related applications for instruction are “a routine component of the classroom and educational processes in general” (Nuldén, 1999 cited in Buzzard et al., 2011, pp.131-139).
Technology affects every aspect of our lives. From romance to business, it has shown its presence everywhere. But technology has had a huge impact on education that cannot be denied, and has done nothing but improve the quality and quantity of education.
Andy Carvin states “ internet access in schools isn’t worth a hill of beans if teachers aren’t prepared to take full advantage of technology” (2000). Schools spend a lot of money on computer hardware and software as well as other technologies without realizing that many of their employees are unprepared to include them in their teaching and use them to their advantages. Educators often use technology as a classroom management tool rather than an educational one, allowing computer time as a reward for good behavior (Clark & Gorski, 2001). The problem with this is that students learn to use the computer for games and such because it is their reward instead of using it on their own time for educational purposes. This is teaching them the wrong idea. Margaret Honey, director of the Center for Children and Technology in NYC said it best, “The bottom line is, you don’t just put technology into schools or into homes and expect miracles to happen. The technology is only as good as the program that surrounds it” (Meyer, 2002, p.2).
Technology in education is a touchy subject in the United States. Many parents believe that technology will only hurt their child in future, while some believe that technology will help their child. Parents have to be open and must allow themselves, to see what is happening before they make their decision.
There is no doubt that technology has changed the world in which we live. The world has been transformed with new advances in technology. This is why it is so important to educate elementary students on technology education. The use of technology in education provides students with technology literacy, information literacy, capacity for life-long learning and other skills necessary for the 21st century workplace. If students are taught how to use laptops to help them in their career now than it can increase productivity in the future. “America is falling from its once prominent position as the world’s leader in technology and science. Technology helps prepare students for a world where they will compete with the best and brightest individuals
Computers have always been useful, but not until recently have computers become useful for children who are twelve and under. Of course these children enjoy playing games and talking to there friends on the computer but due to new innovations coming out everyday children can now do a lot more then just play and socialize. Computers have brought school to the home. When children come home from school it used to mean school was over but today if you have access to the internet school is know longer over but just beginning on the internet. The internet has special educational sites that children can visit and learn from. Besides that children actually can have contact with there personal teacher from school. A new invention called the “Mobile Author can be used by human instructors either from a computer or a mobile phone to create their own Intelligent Tutoring Systems and to distribute them to their students. Students can also use any computer or mobile phone to have access to theory and tests.” (Source 2, Journal) Homework, notes, review assignments can now be given over the internet by the child’s teacher from there school. “Instructors can monitor their students; progress and communicate with their students during the course.” (Source 2, Journal) Children can learn new information on the internet and they are able to review and get extra help on things they don’t understand. If a child realizes that they do not understand something when they get home, they know longer have to wait to go in to school for extra help, but they now can communicate with there teacher online or they can go to an internet tutoring system which will give them just as much help as being in a regular classroom.
