Technology: Good or Evil?
Over 200,000 years ago, when humans were living in caves, homo sapiens have been developing and using technology to improve their lives. However, technology 200,000 years ago was drastically different compared to what it is today. Back then the cavemen were using technology to hunt and create fires and the wheel was a breakthrough invention. Quite a large difference compared to nowadays where everyone has a personal computer in their pocket. It is part of human nature to create things that make life easier and better and for the most part, no one has disputed the advancement of technology. However, there are a lot of downsides to technology that most people do not consider. Therefore, the question is, do the positives of technological advances outweigh the negatives? In my opinion, yes, I believe that the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. Consider what life would be like if we decided to stop technological advances one hundred years ago, instead of typing this essay on my desktop, I would have to write on paper using a feather and ink. Alternatively, we each have our personal computers that we can do an outrageous number of things on. Technology has done an enormous amount of good for humanity and will continue to do so in the future. An analysis of the benefits of technology reveals how technology changes all human life in a positive manner.
Imagine having to travel across the country, not in an airplane or car but on horseback. The advancement of technology is something that will always happen and someday will drastically change our lives even more than it already does. For example, Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX has recently announced that he plans to create a cruise like excursion for people to go to Mars and even create a city on the red planet. This is something that you see in science fiction movies and assume that it is impossible. However, he says that one million humans could live on Mars by 2060 and at the rate that technology is improving at, it is possible for him to do it. Technology is always changing for the better and will continue to improve our quality of life by saving us time, connecting us to each other and providing entertainment.
