Even though technology is made accessible to the students inside the classroom, it doesn’t always mean that the students are being taught the effective techniques to ensure that they are enhancing their levels of learning or that the teachers are implementing it appropriate for the students understanding. Technology being used inside a classroom may enhance student learning and give them a new view on the different ways it can benefit their learning, however if the teacher isn 't trained, using skills, setting goals and objectives, or the structure of application then the effectiveness will not be beneficial to the students learning. The equipment may be in the room, but is of no use if it’s not being utilized in the correct manner.
Common core standards are dependent on the level of technology skills students have. Therefore, instead of using technology separately from curriculum, we as educators must discover ways to effectively integrate technology into our classroom in order to meet the needs of the 21st century student (Lever-Duffy, & McDonald,2014).For educators familiar with the ISTE standards they have been trained and are equipped for implementing technology and are doing what seems to be necessary in order to get students to be able to access a higher-level of thinking and being capable of real world problem solving (ISTE,2016).
Technology is something that has become essential in our society. It not only assists us inside the classroom, but in our personal and professional lives as well. In a technology rich society we are preparing our students for a future that consist of the ability to function in the information age. Furthermore, the other ISTE standards would be critical thinking, problem solving and decision making: with this standard the students use have to use critical thinking skills in order to make plans for, solve different setbacks, do research and use the appropriate tools and sources in order to get an assignment completed. Students are also required to display both legal and ethical behavior in digital citizenship. Additionally, with technology operations and concepts: Students develop an understanding of different technology concepts, and also operations in a way that they are able to use these applications and systems in a manner which is effective and productive.
