Throughout the 21st century, technology has impacted many occupations that you don’t even know. One of those, is Education. In the 20th century, students only have textbooks, notebooks, and pens. Instead, students now use eBooks, interactive online textbooks, and online notebooks. Teachers are able to use projectors, computers, iPad’s, and more! Because of this new technology, high school teachers able are to teach their students in a new, positive way in which students actually excited to learn. Technological developments have had an impact on high school teachers and people’s lives.
Did you know that in between the years 1997 and 2007, computers were brought into the school? Teachers that have computers in the classroom not only benefit the students, but the teachers too. The teachers can show students tutorials, graphics, or even find lesson plans to help the teacher teach. Also, computers in schools are very engaging to students. When a child sees a computer, they want to go up to it and play games. But, if teachers show students you can learn from a computer, the students will have the computer for everything. Lastly, have a computer in the classroom helps you understand applications in the real world. Some examples include, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel. When students get jobs when they are older, they will already now how to use these applications to show a presentation, or make a resume, and even charts! According to a survey than on Pew Internet, “67% say the internet has a “major impact” on their ability to interact with parents and 57% say it has had a such impact on enabling their interaction with the students.”

The world’s technology advancements are quickly developing, thus, unquestionably, contributing to the extraordinary benefits obtained by students, parents, and educators. Students are provided an enhanced understanding of diverse subjects due to presentations, use of the Internet, and various programs, assisting them with projects, homework, tests, or merely general interest. Classroom computer use is certainly beneficial to parents as well. If a student does not have computer access at home to complete a project or essay, it could easily be completed on the classroom’s computer. This avoids any conflicts that may arise from families that do not have access to a personal computer. Teachers are able to easily compose a multimedia presentation to, not only help teach the class, but also to assist the pupils while taking notes and ensuring their understanding of the topic.
If you were to ask some high school students, “Have you ever looked up a sports score or checked your Twitter feed in class on your phone or computer?” what do you think their answer would be? The answers from most, if not all, of the students would be “yes”. Technology use has drastically increased over the past few years, and this dramatic increase is having its effects on classrooms. With online textbooks, homework, and lectures, it is inevitable for it to have an effect. Technology is rising at a rapid pace, and it is rapidly being integrated into secondary classrooms in many forms, such as online textbooks, homework, and lectures. Because of this swift incorporation of technology, high school students have a decreased focus in the classroom, have decreased motivation and patience, and it has changed the roles of teachers and students, in addition to having negative effects on a students’ writing and spelling skills.

The Digital Student course offered many resources, ideas and theories for a teacher of the 21st century to implement into their classrooms and daily lesson planning. It calls for the teachers of today, many of whom grew up in a traditional 20th century classroom, to become more familiar with technology and use it appropriately to reach our 21st century learners. Not only does it ask us to reflect on and improve our teaching methods and styles for the digital student, but also our environments. Teachers need to become comfortable with the technology in their classrooms and in the world around them because a student of the 21st century needs to learn to use these tools and resources properly and learn from them. As the world keeps relying more and more on technology, the possible question for the future is, will technology eventually replace classrooms and teachers? Slowly, more and more of college level classes are offered online now, instead of in the classroom. Will computers provide a better learning opportunity for students? Will students succeed more with online classes rather than traditional classes? Will this be cheaper in the long run for students? Since the world is being taken over with technology, will this be better to students so they are able to teach themselves with technology? Technology already has a huge role with classes right now, could that lead to technology completely taking over the regular classes? This topic is important because it could result in many jobless teachers, but it can also result in cheaper schooling for students. There are many questions up in the air about this happening in the future. There are many valid points for and against this topic coming from teachers, and departments that explore different areas to expand and advance learning environments.

For the teacher, computer technology can lead to more efficient time management in record keeping and developing lessons plans as well as the ease of conducting any kind of research and communication without having to leave the classroom.
One thing schools should ask themselves is how much is all this technology going to cost? For instance there is a high school called Empire High who has 340 students, all of those students are getting Ibooks by Apple Computer Inc(source A). Apple is known for being expensive and the screens being easily broken. Did the schools consider how much that would cost to buy and fix those devices? In addition who is paying for this parents, the state, the schools;
An interactive whiteboard is an instructional tool that allows computer images to be displayed onto a board using a digital projector. The instructor can then manipulate the elements on the board by using his finger as a mouse, directly on the screen. Items can be dragged, clicked and copied and the lecturer can handwrite notes, which can be transformed into text and saved. They are a powerful tool in the classroom adding interactivity and collaboration, allowing the integration of media content into the lecture and supporting collaborative learning. Used innovatively they create a wide range of learning opportunities.
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).

Even using the internet has a source of information for the students or has a tutorial for students who are struggling. There are so many ways that classrooms can benefit from computers. The first thing I looked at was how teachers were being affected by computers. Integrating technology into your teaching can change the way you deliver content to your classes. Not only are teachers affected by having to do grades and attendance by computers now, they also have to worry about teaching their students about computers and integrating it into the daily lesson plans.
Technology has many different effects on education, one of them being enhancing the students learning. Technology may enhance the students learning and may assist most students in achieving their academic standards. When technology and appropriate teaching methods are combined, technology may increase the academic achievement. Positive effects have been found in all major subject areas, from preschool to higher education, both regular and special needs students. Educational technology has been found to have a positive effect on a student’s attitude toward learning and on self-concepts. The introduction of technology into the learning environment has allowed the learning to be more student-centered, to encourage group learning, and helps to stimulate an increase in the student-teacher interaction. Technology has shown a shift from a focus on a student’s memorization to their problem solving. Through technology’s use, learning opportunities have become unrestricted by time or place, allowing lifelong learning. Student use of technology through communications can also help to enhance access to a career and continued education. Students are more likely to use a computer to get help because they can to it themselves. Technology is helping students to become independent.
One benefit of computers is that they help students with school work. Students are able to find things quicker for research papers, etc. Also it can be easier for students to type instead of writing out their essays.
