Technological Mastery and Technological Abundance: A Comparison
School divisions and educational institutions are under pressure to provide their students with the most up-to-date educational technology—be it hardware or software. This new technology generally comes because of a grant or different allocation of the budget, causing infrequent introduction of technology to teachers in overwhelmingly large doses. Incoming technology is generally introduced into educational buildings over the summer break; resulting in teachers returning to work; receiving a minor professional development session on the newly acquired technology and have a brief period to create materials that utilize the new product. Professional development sessions traditionally

However, the benefits that come with a highly supported, confident teaching faculty far outweigh those of a faculty provided with the most up to date technology and left largely to figure out how to use it on their own. Obviously, in an ideal situation, the teachers and students would have access to the best and most recent technology in their classes; this technology would combine with flexible support, collaborative planning time and reassurances that the technology will remain supported or compatible in the long term (Herold, 2015). However, due budgetary and time concerns, this is the exception rather than the rule. Ultimately this tends to leave school and district administrators with a choice: spend money on purchasing the most recent technology, or training their teachers and students in more effective ways of using the technologies they currently have and providing support for the teachers to innovate (Ferriter, 2011). The technological mastery approach provides a highly efficient use of funds, providing budgetary saving with the aim to acquire vital possibly more expensive hardware upgrades in the future. The technology abundance approach of continuing to buy technology for schools piecemeal, based on affordability at the time is wasting money for school divisions and the time and efforts of both teachers and students (Goodwin,
In David Harvey’s 17 Contradiction of Capitalism, he separates the chapters into three categories: Fundamental, moving, and dangerous. Chapter eight: Technology, Work and Human Disposability is categorized into the moving category because technology is constantly changing. Brian Arthur sees “new technologies as the building blocks for the creation of yet newer technologies” (page 95). In this way, over time, technology creates itself, from itself. Harvey argues against Arthur’s theory. Harvey proposed to look at new technologies as they are created mentally before they are made physically. New technological designs replace the old, and are better versions of what we already have. Harvey also argued against Arthurs claims because he did not
Technology today is more relied upon than ever before. If one needs to call someone half way around the world, simply take out a cell phone and dial their number. Within thirty seconds, one can be speaking to that person just as if two people were conversing face-to-face. In the same manner, one has access to endless knowledge and resources by the pushing of a few buttons or the click of a mouse. The usage of social media today is becoming more prevalent than ever before because of the convenience it offers. This convenience includes being able to instantly know where a person is, what they are doing, and how they are feeling. All of these instances have one main commonality : technology. The interminable technological advances one has experienced in the past twenty years have been astonishing. As one continues down the road of technological advancements, they should be mindful of what could happen if they become too dependent on the technology that surrounds them. Brave New World conveys a warning that demonstrates what happens to a society when it experiences an overreliance on technology. The book warns readers by portraying what that over-reliant society would be like.
The article Digital Technology and Institutional Change from the Gilded Age to Modern Times: The Impact of the Telegraph and the Internet describes the difficulties that exist when trying to create an accurate economic model showing responses to new, economy changing, technologies. The author Ronnie Phillips mainly focuses on institutional economics and, by showing the history of other technological advances, the need for institutional analysis. He explains how the challenge is to explain societal change, recognize what and how it happens, and create policies that will "foster" increased living standards throughout the world.

Within the past few decades, technology has immensely increased in use and availability. As a result, millions of people worldwide have taken advantages of benefits technology has supplied. In addition to these contemporary people, schools are realizing the possibility technology provides in the classroom and are implementing the use of them in their curriculum. New technologies in the classroom, however, provoke some concerns amongst those planning to utilize their potential benefits; schools must consider the prospectively detrimental implications and effects technology holds to the user whether it be that they forge a skewed and impractical view of reality or that they promote an inability to think independently.

After doing a bit of reading about the Great Divergence and the factors that possibly lead to its occurrence, it's quite apparent that there is quite a bit of controversy on this topic. Europe and North America flourished while other parts of the world were poverty-stricken. This is where the name the Great Divergence comes from great divergence means the great dividing.
For this reason, further advancement and integration of technology in every aspect of life is undoubtedly a critical element of the future of our society. Technologies that we; in the year 2014, cannot possibly imagine or comprehend, will be at the forefront of the next generation’s life; changing the way that they think, act, learn, and even feel. It is highly important that we take this inevitability into consideration when educating the children of today that will become the adults of tomorrow. As the world changes and job markets change, it is critical that we; as educators, teach children how to use the tools of today so that they might be better equipped to adapt to tomorrow’s technologies. Working with the technologies that have already been developed, educators are able to teach in new ways, with new tools, and students are able to begin working with computers and other devices from a young age and gain a high quality education that puts the student at the center of the learning process. Theoretical model of modern economic growth shows that long-term economic growth and raise the level of per capita income depends on technological progress. This is because of without technological progress and with the increase of capital per capita, marginal returns of capital would diminish and output per capita growth would eventually stagnate (Solow, 1956; Swan, 1956). Studies have shown that “experience, skills and knowledge in the long-term economic growth is playing an increasingly important role” (World Bank, 1999). Despite how technological progress work on economic growth, and how there are different views on the role of in the end, but I am afraid no one would deny that technical progress in the important role of economic development. In this sense, for a country to achieve long-term economic growth, we must continue to promote technological progress. However, economic growth theory is analyzed in general, and usually under the assumption that in the closed economy, and technological progress in a country not normally have taken place in various departments at the same time, and now the economy are often increasingly open economy. In this way, the technological progress in different economic impact on a country may be quite different. In addition, we assume that technological progress is Hicks neutral, is to an industry in itself, but technological progress also reflects the establishment of new industries and development. The new industries and technology-intensive industries generally older than the high, the use of less labor. Even the old industries, the general trend of technological progress is labor-saving.
