Social Disadvantages
The majority of the advantages of this information communication technology revolution currently happening in the world are advantages mainly for developed countries where people have access to technology and have the means to afford it. Disadvantages in regard to technology have a lot to do with socio-economical background, in many countries access to material goods are fairly scarce, making it hard to obtain electronics of any sort (Igun, 2011). This revolution has not only social implications but also educational, and economical implications especially for developing countries of the world such as Africa. There is already an enormous gap between developed and developing countries in terms of access and contents of this information communication revolution (Igun, 2011). People who live in developed countries make up 88% of all internet users, although they make up only 15% of the world’s population, leading to the problem that It’s only those deemed as wealthy who are able to afford such luxuries as internet access. In Africa’s developing nations there is poor access to education and information as a result of lack of adequate information communication technology facilities and expertise (Igun, 2011). Lack of access to the proper technological tools makes it even harder for people to stay in touch with each other when family members move away in hopes of getting better jobs and better wages, it creates an unfair social balance in the world.
Internet connectivity is a major problem, access to Skype is non-existent, however, the majority of people living in Africa go without it since their connectivity rate is quite low compared to most developed countries. Africa’s population is around 991 million and of t...
