A teacher will use many different styles when teaching a performer.
The style of teaching a teacher uses depends on the
circumstances, for example, the pupil's age, ability the complexity of
the skill to be taught and the surrounding environment e.g. gym,
sports field or mountains. More complex skills in dangerous
environments (like navigating in the mountains) need a more controlled
style of teaching than simple skills in safe environments like
throwing a ball in a gym). I am going to compare 3 sports (throwing,
tennis and football) and 3 different teaching styles (Command,
reciprocal and guided discovery) and how useful each one is in the 3
sports. Mosston and Ashworth made (in 1986), a spectrum of teaching
styles based on 10 different styles they observed teachers using. It
works by comparing the amount of input the teacher has compared to the
input of the pupils. For example at A the teacher is inputting all the
decisions and the pupils have no say in them.
Command style (A-B): "In the Command style, the teacher is in total
control. the pupils do what the teacher tells them to and they are
given no freedom to make decisions for themselves." F Galligan et al.
This style of teaching is where the teacher gives the pupils an
activity they must do in a particular way, e.g. (football) dribble a
football through some cones. It works best with larger groups of
beginners because the teacher is in control. It's the best way to
teach a new skill in a part by part method. It doesn't allow much time
for individual feedback or assistance. It can get boring for pupils
that learn faster because they have no input.
Reciprocal style (C): "Reciprocal style allows the learner slightly
more freedom. The teacher is still setting the tasks, but the learner

Auditory is meant for individuals that enjoy asking questions, talking and listening, as well as like to read out loud. Visual learners are more interested in charts, graphs, neat surroundings, seeing rather than hearing, and are pictured to be timid as they read to themselves rather than out loud. Finally there is the kinesthetic learning style. Kinesthetic is to touch, to feel, and usually learn by doing.
Simple approaches and flexible means are the key to effective learning. Monotony and regimentalized fashion of learning is usually not recommended for the growing minds to ensure that the minds remain open and accept more stimuli from the surroundings.
When you become a teacher of any subject you use different styles of teachings that reflect you as a teacher and the lesson you are trying to teach. Sometimes it can be difficult to find what styles may work best in different situations. When teaching physical education the most helpful and beneficial styles are indirect, direct, and interactive teaching. These teaching styles are critical when trying to teach physical education because they are proven to be effective. These styles will help make you an effective teacher because of the way they allow you to control and manage the information being taught. These three styles allow you to accomplish different things in your class room and different types of teaching methods. These styles are important to not only know but to master, so you as a teacher can be effective.
Although learning style may be simply defined as the way people come to understand and remember information, the literature is filled with more complex variations on this theme. James and Gardner (1995), for example, define learning style as the "complex manner in which, and conditions under which, learners most efficiently and most effectively perceive, process, store, and recall what they are attempting to learn" (p. 20). Merriam and Caffarella (1991) present Smiths definition of learning style, which is popular in adult education, as the "individuals characteristic way of processing information, feeling, and behaving in learning situations" (p. 176). Swanson (1995) quotes Reichmann's reference to learning style as "a particular set of behaviors and attitudes related to the learning context" and also presents Keefe's definition of learning style as "the cognitive, affective, and physiological factors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how learners perceive, interact with, and respond to the learning environment" (p. 2). These definitions have understandable variations as they tend to reflect the perspectives of different learning styles inventories. For example, the Grasha-Reichmann Student Learning Style Scale distinguishes among social interaction preferences, which includes behavior and attitude tendencies (ibid.).
