The Universe
Luminosity is the amount of light that is radiated from a star. White light is the composition of all colors. In elements, the energy discharge can be displayed as light. Just by looking at the colors that are discharged, one may precisely identify the element. In understanding the universe, the Doppler effect is one of the most important tools. The Doppler effect is a shift in frequency due to a moving source. Skipping a rock on water would be an example of this effect. The circles would be off center because the rock is a moving source. The wavelength is shorter when the rock is coming toward an individual. Also, the frequency will increase and the wave crests will shorten. When the source is moving away from an individual, the wavelength increases and the frequency decreases. This principle is identical with light.
In a rainbow, the longest wavelength is the red portion and the shortest wavelength is the violet portion. If a body is emitting light and it is approaching someone, we would say the radiation is blue shifted. A red shift, on the other hand, ocurs when the emitting object is receding, or when a spectrum is shifted to longer wavelengths. Hubble measured that the farther the distance of a galaxy is from us, the greater the red shift, which is Hubble's law. In fact, galaxies possibly could be receding from us as fast as the speed of light. The greater the distance of a galaxy, the greater its velocity. Maybe black holes suck everything in, and then when there is nothing left perhaps it just pushes everything out. Maybe the Heat Death fluctuation model is correct and we live in a universe out there or maybe our universe supercooled and expanded. We do not know a lot. We do not even know if a quark is the smallest particle. Maybe the uncertainty principle keeps the universe apart. Black holes stretch the fabric of time to an infinite extent, tearing a hole in space time. What happens at the tear? Some say at the tend of a black hole some of the matter decreases because it loses energy through its jets and tears, creating litle bubbles. The little bubbles could be the universes. With science, we will never be able to answer why we are here.
In many theories that come into the light in the scientific field, there are always gaps, there are always issues within each that have no explanation to them. For example, the big bang theory, this is a theory that attempts to explain how the universe was created. This theory states that the universe began as a very small, dense, and hot ball (Imagine the universe all put into a ball the size of a pen tip) with no stars or atoms. This ball then expanded incredibly quickly. The universe was then formed as the way it is now. Personally, I feel as if this theory has a major hole that prevents me from believing it is possible. This hole is, “What exactly put this ball into motion in the first place?”

The Big Bang theory is a theory that states that the universe originated as a single mass, which subsequently exploded. The entire universe was once all in a hot and dense ball, but about 20 million years ago, it exploded. This explosion hurled material all over the place and all mater and space was created at that point in time. The gas that was hurled out cooled and became our stellar system. A red shift is a shift towards longer wavelengths of celestial objects. An example of this is the "Doppler shift." Doppler shift is what makes a car sound lower-pitched as it moves further away. As it turns out, a special version of this everyday life effect applies to light as well. If an astronomical object is moving away from the Earth, its light will be shifted to longer (red) wavelengths. This is significant because this theory indicates the speed of recession of galaxies and the distances between galaxies.
One effect of the expansion of the universe is the redshift ("redshift") of all wavelengths. That means, among other things, that there is a loss of energy with distance; that is, that there is an "extra" loss of brightness proportional to 1 / r. Black Holes are referred to stars, and nothing from light or any kind of matter is able to escape the gravitational pull of that Black Hole. Black Holes are the last of the line after Neutron Stars and White Dwarfs. Black Holes are about 10-15 more times/massive than the own Sun itself. When the Black Hole reaches its final "stage" they blow up into also known as a supernova. Most of the debris is left behind as well which fusion can no longer take place. The Black Hole will collapse or close on itself if no force is to the opposing gravity. Nuclear fusion creates some energy and some pressure with the Gravity of the Black Hole. So with no force, the Black Hole shrinks to zero volume. Black Holes pull in all kinds of matter. Black Holes are small, but you wouldn't think they would be. They may be small but they have the energy to suck things up into themselves. A usual diameter of a regular black hole is 4 times the diameter of the sun. With the cause of them being small, distant, and dark, they wouldn't be able to be seen or observed. Now if you get too close to one, you may die. So black holes are still a mystery to be solved. There were always bad events occurring in Shelley’s life. Before the age of 30, Mary Shelley had lost her mother, sister, father, husband, and three of her four children. She battled depression all of her life and finally died in London at the age of fifty-four. After all of these terrible things that happened to her, people can probably understand how she came up with such a horror story like Frankenstein. In this novel, the main character is Victor Frankenstein. After Victor mother dies, he leaves and goes to England. In England is where he created this monster that he soon regrets. Victor abandons the creature, and the creature makes it his duty to find his creator and wreak havoc along the way. This horrifying sci-fi story could only be written and told by Mary Shelley, an individual that had such a horrible life.
Across The Universe is a story that takes you into the lives of the true flower children during the 1960s. Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), Jude (Jim Sturgess), and Max (Joe Anderson), are on a journey to achieve peace, love, and happiness. Lucy and Max are siblings whose family is very wealthy. Lucy loses her first true love to the War in Vietnam and begins to spiral into depression. Her brother, Max, drops out of college against his family’s wish, and he and Lucy run away to New York City to escape their high class life. There, they meet Jude, a man from Liverpool who hopped the United States’ border to experience foreign life. The three of them bounce around the city, enjoying all it has to offer, occasionally under the influence of drugs. Lucy, Jude, and Max join a band of hippies protesting the war and march and chant in large protest lines. The movie depicts scenes of the police punching and abusing peaceful protesters, while comparing it to scenes of men ruthlessly shooting innocent civilians in the Vietnam War. Throughout the movie, Lucy and Jude begin to fall in love, which causes some of the main difficulties.
Black holes are the result of the death of a massive star, leaving behind a dense remnant core that eventually collapses to create a gravitational force so strong that nothing, including light, can escape the force. The theory that black holes existed started back in the early 1900s and since then astronomers and scientists have been trying to get a better understanding of them. This phenomenon has been a working progress for astronomers and scientists for many years and as we develop a better understanding of our solar system, the more likely it is to make a significant discovery that can answer some of the most difficult questions about our incredible galaxy and solar system. The more information we are able to acquire about our universe, the more questions we might be able to answer about our existence. With advancements in technology we may be able to see some significant discoveries and insights into the world of black holes.
The argument suggesting life existing on other Earth-like planets has been present since man first looked into space and questioned his own existence and the existence of others like him. Today there are many theories on the existence of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, but only one theory goes beyond them and into an even larger realm. The contents of this theory, known as the “multiverse” theory, suggest that humans on Earth live within one universe of many others that reside within a primordial vacuum containing many other universes (Jenkins and Perez). Each of these universes possesses potentially different natural constants and physical laws that govern them differently, thus calling forth some logical questions. First, what is the likelihood such universes even exist, and second, how can we test the constants and laws that still result in the possibility of intelligent life in other universes? Moreover, what implications does this theory have on the ideology that this universe is designed specifically for human beings?
The universe is like a magic trick because of the questions and beliefs that arise when something is shown to people that doesn't coincide with their beliefs about reality and what can and can't possibly happen. It causes many different reactions.
The big bang theory is an attempt to explain how the world began. The big bang theory begins with what is called a “singularity.” This term is used to describe an area in space which defies all the known laws of physics. Singularities are thought to exist at the core of black holes. Black holes are areas of intense gravitational pressure. The pressure is thought to be so intense that matter is pressed together into an infinite amount of pressure. The dense hot mass of the singularity slowly expanded. This process is called inflation. As the singularity expanded the universe went from dense and hot to cool and expansive. Inflation is still continuing on today which means that the universe is continually expanding.
