During observations, I saw a lot of different methods to teach, control, and mold children. Most of the things I observed I liked, only in one class did I see something that made me uncomfortable but even then I was not too unsettled. The classes I observed all showed me applications of ideas that were discussed in class but they added their own twist on to it or they merged multiple ideas to suit their needs and make for a better learning environment. Student happiness is a huge factor in the amount of learning that happens in the classroom; the happier the student is the more they will pay attention and learn. In the kindergarten class, students sat on a carpet away from all of the tables that are used only for their small groups, I think this was done because it separated group learning and individual learning in a physical way. I think this is a good method of indirectly letting students know they all learn different because first they have group learning where the teacher will try to teach all of the students the same way but then she lets them each pick a different station with different styles of learning but they all learn the same thing. Teachers use this set up, I think, because it gives all students an equal chance to learn the material because “’equality of quality’ in education cannot be achieved by forcing all students to take exactly the same course of study” (Noddings, The False Promise of the Paideia). Teachers use this method because it makes it the most equal for all students because Noddings is right that if all students must learn the same things the same way education will never be equal. Most of my observations were very pleasant and informative and some were not so informative but I can still take things away from all of them. I got to see several different philosophies at work and I got to see several work in conjunction with each other. I plan on taking what I learned from theses observations to my classroom to see if I can make them work for my students and
I did my classroom observation at Brooklyn Preschool of Science (BPOS), located in the neighborhood of Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York. BPOS is a small school serving a little over 100 students from 2 years old to pre-kindergarten. I had the opportunity to do my observation in the pre-k classroom, which consisted of 17 students. On the day of my observation, the teacher had all the students seated in the circle time area for a read-aloud. She explained to them that she is going to read a fun and exciting book to them and that she wants them to pay close attention to what the book is about because she is going to ask them questions in the end. The children have been learning about living things in the neighborhood, and they have been talking
During this assignment, I needed to observe infant/toddler from birth to 36 months. The observation was for 30 minutes while the infants interact with the world. While the observation, I created a running record observation to keep track of the developmental domains. The observation took place in the ECE classroom. There were three children which were Charlotte, Loui, and Benjamin. They were placed in the center of the class where there was different kinds of toys. During the observation, Charlotte and Loui were interacting with one another. However, Benjamin wasn’t interacting at all. Loui interacted with classmates and went outside the circle to get some toys.
For this field assignment, I chose to observe a seventh grade self-contained math class at William A Morris I.S 61 on Staten Island. I am currently a substitute teacher at the school and has worked at this school for approximately two years. For the purpose of this observations, I worked with Mr. Karl Knutsen, a 6th and 7th grade math, special education and technology supervisor at the school. Mr. Knutsen has been a teacher for seven years and has worked in I.S 61 for five. He currently teaches all self-contained math classes and is the "tech guy" for the building, meaning he is the go-to guy for all SmartBoard or computer based questions and emergencies. I am currently observing and working with Mr. Knutsens first and second period 7th grade class, 717. This class has 12 students, 11 boys and 1 girl, ranging in ages 13-14. Child X is 15 months old. He has dark brown eyes and has dark brown curly hair. His eyes were as big and have this loving look to them. His skin was a soft almond color. He was wearing this blue shirt with a green dinosaur on it and khaki pants. He was sitting on the floor of his classroom which is surround by many toys. The classroom was filled with colorful posters to catch the eye of anyone that comes in and is very welcoming for the infants as well as having safety in mind with how the classroom is set up.
The first activity was made for the students to decipher what shapes or objects have round edges. The objects included were sphere, cube, rectangular prism, cone, square based pyramid, and cylinder. The students were asked to make two groups of round and not round. The students were allowed to pick up and touch the pieces to get a better understanding of what the objects feel like.
Classroom #1’s unit is spring. Today’s discovery table activity is planting a seed into a plastic cup. The table is located on the linoleum, just across from the sink area. There is seating for 6 placed around the table; however, the teacher is working with 2 children at a time for this endeavor.
When I use to go into classrooms I was more of an observer and just blended in, but now I am starting to see myself with authority in the classroom. This experience also teaches me about the major difference that just a single grade can make. While working in the kindergarten classroom we are focusing on learning the alphabet, but in the first grade classroom we are reading books that have multiple sentences on a page. Therefore, as I continue on in this program I will understand how to best use what I am being taught to help those that I am teaching. As for my personal teaching philosophies I am learning how I want to make sure I get across to all of my students. In my elementary school, students who were struggling, including myself, were pulled out of the classroom to receive the help they need, but now I see how the idea of an inclusive classroom can be so much more beneficial. Keeping all of the students in one classroom and fitting the lesson plans to fit them all will allow the students to flourish with all different types of learners. In conclusion, I feel that this experience is better preparing me to become a teacher because it is exposing me to an actual classroom instead of just reading about
In this elementary school, there are three first-grade classrooms and they have pretty much the same decoration and organization.

My first observation group was at lunch time, ages 2 to 5 years old. I saw a proper health menu as well as a good routine of washing hands, cleaning teeth and good arrangement of cots. But one of the teachers grabbed her hair a couple times while wearing her gloves and feed the kids at the same time. I wish she could had her hair tide up.
Observation and assessment are one of the key components in early education. Observation and assessment is implemented to successfully identify the weaknesses and strengths of the students. There are many ways which observation is conducted. Three techniques to observe are event sampling, time sampling, and narrative.
My goal as a teacher is to improve my student’s education and help them grow knowledgably. I like to see students at different levels develop with each other and learn. I want to challenge the students and watch them grow to their highest level of education. Therefore, having the students in groups is the best educational strategy I like to use a lot. I want my students to have freedom with whatever creativity they want, and to allow them to express themselves at any time. With this freedom students will be able to experiment with likes and dislikes and be able to figure their weaknesses and strengths. Education is for everyone and it’s a right by low for all; teachers, on the other hand, should do their jobs very honestly and effectively.
The school that I visited was new. It was the first year of the school opening. The school board had combined two schools into one, so the students had to adjust to their new environments and new individuals. They seemed to be getting along well with each other. Since the school is new the teacher has to adjust to new problems that araise. Times for the subjects and times for using the computer labs change. So the teacher must always be fixable for anything. In this observation of this classroom I learned about the enjoyment of teaching. How you have to adapt to each of the students.
For my observation experience I went to Southern High School in Harwood, MD. Southern High School has a special education department for the students with disabilities. The teacher that I met with for this classroom observation was Ms. West. In the classroom there were at least four assistant teachers that helped Ms. West throughout the school day. The assistant teachers helped Ms. West co- teach the class and were there to help the students if they needed extra help. The school also has a couple of student aides that come in to help the teachers and the students in the classroom. There were at least twelve students in the classroom. The students in the class had many different exceptionalities such as learning disabilities, Down syndrome,
Through classroom observation I was exposed to the different methods of teaching a lesson. The methods of teaching depends on how will the teacher execute the lesson well. I learned that modern learners today needs both modern and traditional way of teaching as for them to fully learned the lesson in a meaningful way.
