Recommended: How did great britain view their relationship with american colonies

The famous stories of the Boston Tea Party refer to the Sons of liberty stalking up to a British ship and throwing chests of tea overboard. Even though this is not completely accurate, the story behind the Boston tea party helped to shape the new world. The Tea Act was the final straw of a long list of taxes and laws that Great Britain implemented on the colonists that led to the Boston Tea Party and eventually led to the American Revolution.
At the start of 1754, Great Britain had acquired large sums of debt from their involvement in the French and Indian war. Great Britain worked to decrease their debt of 60,000 pounds by enforcing taxes on the colonists. Stamp agents were tarred and feathered for their support or employment of taxes. The Sons of Liberty intimidated stamp agents so much that all stamp agents resigned before the Stamp Act was put into place. “The claim of Parliament to tax America, has been too well examined, for you to doubt, at this time, to which fide right and justice have given the palm.” (Scævola 1773, Library of Congress). This quote demonstrates the mindset of the colonists that if parliament was to tax the colonies, then the colonies would need proper representation. After the Boston Tea Party, all of the colonists realized that they were being treated poorly by the British government. This realization was an important step towards the dream of colonial independence from Great Britain, which was resting in the heads of each colonist. They all came from their mother country to start a new life in a new world, but the British government was not allowing them the possibility for that dream to come true by controlling them to such an extent.
